Bobcat Bulletin
Week of November 1st
From the Desk of Principal Schmid
Wow, what a week! A huge thank YOU to the Brookdale community for the wonderful surprise yesterday for Principal Appreciation Day with "Fancy Pink Fun"! I was beyond surprised and filled with overwhelming gratitude. I felt all the love, and although don't feel I deserve it all, truly appreciate it. It will be a day I never forget! The students and staff wore it all from fancy shoes, to dresses and full suits, to fancy tennis shoes, to sparkles, earrings, etc.! I have already started reading through the messages submitted, and each one has made me smile. It meant more than I can express! I know as your child's special support person, you played a role in making it all happen--thank you!
IAR reports for our 4th and 5th graders were sent home today via backpack mail and report cards are now viewable in ParentVUE (more information below).
It's hard to believe that Monday we turn the calendar to November! Time sure flies when you are having fun and having fun we sure are! Speaking of FUN, thank you VERY much to all of our Classroom Coordinators and classroom volunteers who planned the wonderful Fall Parties in the classrooms. I had the opportunity to go around the rooms, and there were laughs, giggles, and many things they were proud to show me; fun was surely had by all!
If you celebrate Halloween, I wish you a safe Halloween on Sunday!
With Sincere Gratitude,
Mrs. Keeley Schmid
Brookdale's Proud Principal
UPDATES
Report Cards
District 204 provides elementary report cards through ParentVUE. You currently can view your child's elementary school report card through ParentVUE. After you log into your ParentVUE account, you will find the Report Card tab on the left. If you need assistance, please call the Brookdale office (630.428.6800) next week. Here is the report card grading system for each grade level. This is also available through ParentVUE.
Kindergarten report cards for the first quarter include marks for the Math Profile of Progress only. Quarters 2, 3, and 4 will include marks for all areas.
As always, our doors are open to you. Please contact your child's teacher with any questions or concerns at report card time and throughout the school year.
We look forward to talking with you at the upcoming parent/teacher conferences on November 18 (in-person) and 22 (virtual). Sign up information will be shared soon.
Boundary Updates
At the October 27, 2021 Boundary Committee Meeting, RSP & Associates reviewed information with committee members to guide future discussion for the boundary redistricting process. During the meeting, RSP discussed 2021-22 enrollment as well as current and recent developments, and updated the committee on projections using the current year data. Looking at the previously presented concepts, RSP also explained the impact of the new data on building capacity.
RSP & Associates will make final adjustments to the concepts in preparation for the community forums. The community is encouraged to attend the forums and provide feedback on the concepts prior to the final proposals being created and presented to the board of education.
The community forums will be held at the district’s three high schools on the following dates.
- Monday, November 8 from 7 - 9 pm at Waubonsie Valley High School, Enter Door #33
- Tuesday, November 9 from 7 - 9 pm at Neuqua Valley High School, Enter Door #7
- Wednesday, November 10 from 7 - 9 pm at Metea Valley High School, Enter Door #1
Prior to the forums, the concept maps will be available on the district’s website for public viewing. An opportunity to submit questions will also be available in advance of the community forums. The three community forums will be the same format with identical information being presented. For those unable to attend, materials from the forums, including a recording of the forum presentation and feedback survey, will be available online.
For more information on the boundary process, to view meeting materials, or watch meeting videos, visit 2021 Boundary Committee. You can also read the boundary FAQ here.

Academically Talented Programming
District 204 offers a variety of academic programs to meet the needs of our students starting in 3rd grade. Although assessment occurs throughout the school year for all students, some programs require the gathering of additional information in order to determine appropriate placement. Our identification process for Project Arrow and Accelerated Math programs includes the use of multiple measures when considering the total child for academic programming. We consider standardized and normed assessment data including, but not limited to, the following: Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS), aimswebPlus, classroom assessments and students' learning characteristics.
For additional information regarding the timeline and our programming in District 204, please see the below link.
Giftmart
Again this year, various schools will be collecting toys for under-resourced families in Indian Prairie School District 204 as part of the Giftmart Program.
Parents or guardians of students in need are invited to the Giftmart Toyshop, ahead of the winter holidays, where they can purchase new toys for $2.00 each. 100% of the proceeds made from the sale of each toy will be donated back to the invited family’s school to fund much needed resources.
Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy that is safe for children ages 6-12. (No stuffed animals or board games, please). Toys will be collected from November 6 – December 6 in Giftmart Toy Collection Boxes located inside of the following schools: Metea Valley and Waubonsie Valley High Schools; Granger, Crone, Gregory, and Fischer Middle Schools; and Brooks, Cowlishaw, Fry, Graham, Georgetown, Gombert, May Watts, McCarty, Owen, Patterson, Petterson, Welch, and Young Elementary Schools.
Thank you for your generosity and participation! For a list of toy ideas, click here.

If you are planning to volunteer at Brookdale for longer than 15 minutes *inside the building, please complete the updated Volunteer Form updated with COVID protocols.
*At this time, volunteers are not allowed inside the building. You can see this link where transmission levels each week are reported.
