Dear Kincaid Families,
Kindness Matters
I cannot be more proud of our Kincaid Coyotes! You will see in this newsletter a report from Mrs. Drake, our school counselor, and Mrs. Edais, our Migrant Ed Tutor, the positive impact our students have made in supporting our Canned Food Drive. Our students truly demonstrated that we are the Home of the Kind Coytotes. We know that at home and school we model, teach, and have high expectations for our students in practicing kindness toward one another. Thank you for your support.
Summer Learning Programs
Kincaid staff will be contacting families to submit an application for summer school programs. The programs are based on student needs. Students who are at benchmark or above will not be recommended for summer school. Applying does not guarantee a spot in the program. ASD will review all applications.

Kincaid PTA
We want to thank our Kincaid School PTA. They have been working behind the scenes to design a t-shirt for all our Kincaid Coyotes. Teachers were sizing students last week to get an order in this next week. We will keep you posted when T-shirts arrive! If you would like more information about becoming active in our PTA please contact them at kincaidschoolpta@gmail.com or follow them on their Facebook Page
Sincerely,
Wendy Zorea

Canned Food Drive
Our Kincaid Kind Coyotes really lived up to their motto, "Kindness Matters," during our March/April 2021 Food Bank Food Drive! Over the course of three weeks, Kincaid students and families worked together to collect over 10,000 food items totaling 3,659 pounds of food! Our original goal was to collect 1,500 food items ... well ... they accomplished that goal in the FIRST THREE DAYS and then set their sights on BREAKING the 10,000 MARK! Not only did our students gain personal blessings by winning prizes for most food collected, but they extended huge blessings to our Anchorage community by gifting food and snacks to families in need!
A report from the Food Bank of Alaska stated that, as a result of this huge success, Kincaid Elementary now holds the title of the Biggest Food Drive Collection for any Anchorage school in over 12 years! Way to go Coyotes!!
We are immensely proud of our Kind Coyotes and cannot wait to top this effort next year!

6th Grade Fundraiser for End of Year Celebrations
Sixth grade is trying to do a fundraiser to help with the upcoming costs for Graduation gifts and decorations, and we need your help! We will be doing a 3-week Dimond Greenhouse fundraiser from April 12th until April 30th, selling $25 gift certificates.
These can be redeemed from Mother’s Day on May 9th until Father’s Day on June 20th. This would be a GREAT Mother’s Day gift, as we will have the certificates returned before then!
We are also offering a pizza party to the class that raises the most money, so please help us out and promote the fundraiser! Go Coyotes!
Thanks in advance,
6th grade team
Online Registration
Enrollment at Kincaid has declined during the pandemic. It is in the spring that we begin to plan for fall. Online registration for the 2021-22 school year will open for returning students on April 26th. New to District students can register online starting July 1st. It is important that our Kincaid families register early to provide ASD leaders a clear picture of our enrollment. We currently have 459 students enrolled at Kincaid compared to 550 at this time last year.
Please make sure to register your child early, as enrollment drives our staffing allocation. If you need your Parent Connect information, please call the office for assistance at 245-5530.
H.O.W.L
Let’s H.O.W.L.! This is a four-week recreational reading program at Kincaid Elementary School. It is our hope that all students will join our recreational reading club. It is a simple program that will give students an opportunity to do some reading at home. One of our goals is for children to understand that reading isn’t just a school activity. It is a fun, life-long, anywhere activity!
Each Monday, for the next four weeks (April 5 – April 30), your child will bring a slip home to keep track of the number of minutes she or he reads at home during the week. The goal
is for kindergarten through third grades to read 100 minutes per week. (That’s about 15 minutes
per day.) Fourth through sixth grade, are asked to read 150 minutes a week. (That’s about 22
minutes per day.) Your child may read magazines, picture books, chapter books, comic books,
etc. Your child may read by him or herself or read to a younger sister or brother to meet the
number of minutes required. (You may read to children needing assistance.)
Each week those children who meet the goal will be eligible to win prizes. Throughout
the four weeks, children will participate in school-wide activities such as a read-in, book riddles,
the masked reader and a virtual book character parade. At the end of the four weeks, children
who read the required total minutes will choose a book to keep.
You can help your child meet his or her goal by setting aside a regular time each day to
read and keeping the minutes slip in a prominent place. (The refrigerator is a great place for
this.)
If you have any questions, please call your child’s teacher. Thank you for encouraging
the love of reading in your young reader.
Please Return Chromebooks
Elementary students attending in-person instruction and who have an ASD Chromebook checked out to them will be asked to return the device to their school starting May 3. Students in the virtual program will be asked to return their device by the end of the school year unless: 1) they are attending summer school, or 2) they will be enrolled in the virtual program next year.
In addition to any school-specific guidance regarding the return process, please be sure to include the following information in your communication with families:
· Who: Every elementary student who has been issued a District Chromebook and is attending classes in person. (Students in the virtual program will be handled separately.)
· What:
o Students will need to return their Chromebooks and ALL power cords.
o Any Chromebooks not returned by May 7 will be remotely disabled on May 17.
· When: Chromebooks will be collected between May 3 - 7.
