Pine Road Grows Great Kids
February 25, 2021
A MESSAGE FROM MR. COLE
Pine Road Families,
The weather this winter has been unpredictable, cold, and frustrating, but the great news is that we are less than a month away from the first day of spring. As I walk through Pine Road’s halls and virtual classrooms, they are bustling with TONS of exciting learning opportunities for our hard-working students. Spring is in the air!
Speaking of exciting learning opportunities, our staff have been working tirelessly to plan our annual Read Across America Week. This year’s theme is Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers. The flyer for the week’s festivities can be found here. We look forward to having ALL students participate in this wonderful event.
As we enter into the second half of the year, I wanted to reiterate that our students, staff, and families’ safety continues to be of the utmost importance. As a reminder, when entering the building, EVERYONE must wear a mask. When picking up or dropping off either in the walker or car line, please make sure you keep a 6 ft. distance and wear a mask. Finally, please refrain from playing on the playground equipment during the school day or dismissal as these areas are off-limits.
Additionally, as the weather gets warmer and our students begin to dream of playing outside, we need to keep in mind focused on following our digital expectations and routines when learning virtually. Wednesdays are considered a full day of learning for students. While they tend to be more asynchronous, teachers also utilize a blend of instructional delivery models. Attendance is taken during the mandatory morning class meeting. At these meetings, teachers will outline the expectations of synchronous and asynchronous learning for the day. For the remainder of the day, students will be provided with asynchronous/semi-synchronous work on individual or long-term assignments, as well as intervention and enrichment with small groups of students. Work that is completed will count towards their grade in each specific subject area, and failure to complete assignments for the day may result in the child being marked absent. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Scott Cole
Principal

Multicultural Read Alouds
During the month of March, the Pine Road community is invited to visit the Virtual Events page where a Flipgrid featuring multicultural read-alouds will be posted! This special event will take place from March 1st through March 31st. We hope you can join us in cultivating a love for reading!
Read Across America
March 1st-5th
Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading and was launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA). Pine Road will begin this week-long celebration on Monday, March 1st through Friday, March 5th. The goal is to incorporate literacy activities each day in order to bring reading excitement to our students.
This year’s theme is Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers. Our school librarian and reading specialists have joined together with staff to coordinate daily reading events that make reading a fun and interactive experience for all! Some of the daily events include Read My Shirt Day, school-wide D.E.A.R. time, and Crazy Socks Day!
On Thursday, March 4th students will be invited to wear their pajamas and listen to Pine Road teachers read a book that represents their culture or a culture they have learned more about. This Multicultural Read Aloud Flipgrid will be available through Pine Road’s Virtual Events page, with a new read-aloud every day in the month of March.
The week will conclude with the One Book, One School reading program where all students will listen to the chosen read-aloud, Speak Up, by Miranda Paul. This picture book highlights diversity and encourages children that one voice can make a difference.
We are looking forward to a week-long celebration of reading at Pine Road. We hope to see your child(ren) participate in these special reading events! Please click on the picture to view the flyer for the week's festivities!

2021 PTA Poster Contest
Our February contest will be to create a sign or banner illustrating why you like and/or appreciate your school. We know that times may be quite different this year, but our PR teachers are working exceptionally hard for our students. Pine Road Elementary School is a wonderful place with a thoughtful, caring and devoted staff. Your task is to come up with a catchy saying or simply write “I Love My School” on a sign and decorate it. Another option would be to design a poster to show why you are “Pine Road Proud”.
One winner will be chosen from each grade to win a fun prize. Winners will be selected by a special group of judges including Pine Road staff and Pine Road PTA representatives. Only one entry per Pine Road student. Posters may be made of any materials you might have at home such as: paint, markers, crayons or colored pencils. You may choose to use glitter or stickers to embellish your creation. Phrases and designs must be school appropriate. We look forward to seeing your creativity!
Entries can be submitted at this link:
