Early Life
Born to a farming family in a small hamlet located in Takster, Amdo, north-eastern Tibet, Lhamo Donrub, as he was then christened, was fifth of the sixteen children in the family. He was one of the seven to survive childhood. Legends were passed on when the 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso, died. The head of Gyatso was preserved northeast, but found facing southeast. This shows the direction of his successor. After they found Lhamo Donrub they presented him with multiple relics. the relics he chose were a test to decide if he was the 14th Dalai Lama. He chose and was declaired the new Dalai Lama
