News From The Elementary Office September 2023
A Note from the Elementary Office
Families,
Thank you for ensuring that your students were prepared for the start of the year with school supplies, dismissal communications, and all the necessary details that go along with starting a new school year. It is wonderful to have the children back in the building and to have the support of their families. You are your child's first and best teacher and we appreciate all that you do to have them ready to learn each day. Feel free to reach out to the office should you have questions or need support throughout the year.
Mrs. Mary McCullough
POWERSCHOOL UPDATES
Counselor Corner
On Tuesday, September 26th, 2023, we will have our annual Body Safety Program for grades K-5 entitled: Child Lures Prevention - Think First and Stay Safe. This year we will be having a guest speaker, Megan Banet from The Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide. Please see the attached video about the program: Parent Informational Video
As always, your student will have the opportunity to OPT out of the program and we will send home a slip closer to the date that you can complete.
We will also offer a parent night on September 26, 2023, at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria and invite you all to attend to learn more about the program and hear helpful information to keep your children safe. There will be an opportunity for Q and A as well. Brochures are available for parent/guardian support.
Here is the schedule for the presentations and we will be meeting in the Hanger.
4th and 5th: 8:05am-8:50am
2nd and 3rd grade: 9:00am-9:45am
KG-1 grade: 9:55am-10:25am
As always please let me know if you have any questions.
UNIVERSAL DYSLEXIA SCREENER FOR K-2 STUDENTS
Indiana Code 20-35.5 requires all Indiana schools to screen students in grades K-2 for learning
characteristics related to dyslexia. During September, students in grades K,1, and 2 will be given a universal dyslexia screener.
The results of this screener will provide your child's classroom teacher with data and tools to provide additional support in the specific area of need. In addition, these lessons will show new and different ways of learning the skills needed to be a successful reader.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the administration of this screener, please contact Shelby McDonald, Dyslexia Specialist for AC, at mcdonalds@accs.k12.in.us or by phone (260) 692-6629 ext. 1207.
