To New Beginnings

As educators, we are privileged to have a chance for a fresh start twice every year. I know we can always do so, but as far as resolutions and new goals, we have the beginning of a New School Year and of a New Calendar Year, which for us almost coincides with the start of a new semester. So, in this regard, below is a link with some food-for-thought.

Either you choose to do-over or to continue focusing on your August goals, I wish 2014 to be your best year yet, both personally and professionally!

January Focus

Component 5: Interaction

This component refers to the following features:

16- Provide students with plenty of opportunities for interactions and discussions with teachers and among students. Benefits of interaction include brain stimulation, increased motivation, reduced risk, more processing time, and increased attention.

17 - Include group configurations to support Language & Content Objectives of the lesson; options may include individual work, group work, triads, and cooperative learning structures

18 - Provide sufficient wait time for responses. Effective SIOP teachers allow students to express their thoughts fully without interruption.

19- Give ample opportunities for students to clarify key concepts in their first language. This particular feature usually applies to bilingual classrooms.
