Principal's Message
Happy Monday Bear Creek Cubs,
We hope everyone had a great weekend.
Please note that Tuesday, April 6 is our first STAAR date (cue up Star Trek fans.) We will be administering fourth grade writing.
Class pictures are on Thursday, April 8 see below for information and look for specifics from your child's teacher.
Friday, April 9 is a regular school day.
On Wednesday, April 14 we will be hosting a conversation about what next year will look like ... understand we will not have all the answers but I feel like I can set some concerns at ease by sharing where our headspace is.

What Do If Your Child Is Not Feeling Well
If your child is ill with symptoms consistent (cough, sore throat, stomach issues, headaches, fatigue, congestion, etc ...) with Covid-19 contact Mr. Crissey and your child's teacher and then the following protocols must be followed:
Students May Return After
10 days have passed since symptoms started, and improvement in overall symptoms, and 24 hours have passed without fever and use of fever-reducing medication.
OR
Provide doctor’s note to campus health room staff stating that symptoms are not COVID-19-related and student can return to school.
OR
Provide a negative COVID-19 test.
As an FYI the same holds true for staff members.

A Special Thank You
We wanted to thank Jenny Benbrook and her yearbook team for their awesome work on our inaugural Bear Creek Elementary yearbook. The amount of time spent to create a yearbook is extraordinary and this one is "extra" extraordinary as it will hold such a special place in the hearts of our community.
TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ORDER A YEARBOOK
Bear Creek Dance Fit - Our First Ever PTA Fundraiser!
Parents and Families—Pledging for this year's upcoming Bear Creek Dance Fit is live! Our two-week program will kick off next week on April 14th. Families can help us get started by gathering pledges for the main event on April 23rd. This year our goal is to raise $35,000 for Teacher and Student Support, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Not only are we raising funds for Bear Creek Elementary, our students are also learning how to live with character through Booster's new character theme: Sports City Now - a fitness theme about activating character and an active lifestyle! You can check out all of this year's character videos at FUNRUN.COM.
Here is how you can help our school:
Log onto FUNRUN.COM
Share! Go to social media to help spread the word by creating a Student Star Video! You can upload your student’s picture and share it through Facebook, email, or text. It is a fun and easy way to ask for a donation from friends, family, or even local businesses.
Give online to support our school if you are able to.
Check to see if your company offers corporate matching gifts with the easy-to-use widget on FUNRUN.COM!
ASID TELL Survey
We are very proud to share our staff TELL Survey results. The TELL Survey or AISD Climate Survey provides a detailed breakdown focusing on dozens and dozens of questions. If you have questions please let me know.
CAMP INVENTION IS COMING!!!!
To be clear the school does not make money from this venture but I have to say how EXCITED I am to offer Camp Invention to you. I hosted this camp for many years in Florida and I have to say it was one of the most engaging camps I have ever seen. Our dates are June 14 through June 18 and the teachers will all be Bear Creek teachers. Take a look at the flyers and let me know if you have questions.
As a new update Mr. Linnell will be the camp director.
Class And Individual Spring Pictures
Teachers will let all their remote learners know when their times are. Remote learners will need to be screened and this includes using the AISD APP which gets you a green check. You will come to the door adjacent to the staff parking lot ... NOT the front door. You will see three large red AISD Screener signs prominently posted in the area. You will wait in the parking lot while we get your children's picture taken.
Class pictures are first and will be taken on the steps of the stage with masks on.
For individual spring pictures there will be two cameras on the stage. Masks will be removed just before the picture is taken. Individual pictures will occur immediately after class pictures.
Staff Appreciation Spotlight
This week we are honoring our wonderful school librarian, Ashley Saenz! April 4th was National School Librarian Day and we would love to spend the week celebrating all the knowledge, kindness and fun Ms. Saenz brings to our Bear Creek library. Whether it's an engaging read-aloud or making sure the best books are available to our cubs, we appreciate her so much. Take a moment this week to thank Ms. Saenz for being our wonderful BCE Librarian!
We are also taking time this week to thank our dedicated cafeteria workers, Carmen Herrera, Irena Huerta, & Honoria Lorenzo! These ladies have worked hard through the challenges of the pandemic to make sure our kids have healthy, safe, and nutritious food. We appreciate them so much!

Counselor's Corner
Hello Bear Creek Families!
Parenting is tough. Who's with me?!? 🙂
It can be hard to talk to our kiddos without some kind of kick back when it comes to difficult topics like doing schoolwork, picking up around the house, or even just being polite to their sibling. Tensions can flair and things can go south in a flash without a warning. As adults, our mood and approach to conversation can greatly affect the outcome of these situations.
Two books I strongly recommend are Whole-brained Child and No Drama Discipline both by Dr. Daniel Siegel. "A whole-brained way to calm the chaos and nurture your child's developing brain." These books will help you navigate conversations that produce better outcomes. It also helps adults understand young minds which gives us more empathy in how we approach them. If you would like to borrow one of my copies of No Drama Discipline, please reach out. I have 4 copies I am happy to loan out.
Included is a quick info graphic of things to consider when going into a conversation with your child.
Something to think about: "An escalated adult cannot de-escalate an escalated child." Translation: If you are upset and heated you will not be able to calm an upset or heated child. Calm yourself first before beginning the conversation.
