Northern Region Teacher Shout Out
NR Teacher of the Week: Lindsey Wiegand
MVCA Teacher and the POWER OF POE!
Lindsey Wiegand – ENG303A – Zee has harnessed her students’ love for Edgar Allen Poe in the lesson on Dark Romanticism. She provided a fantastic hook that actually prompted a student to read her own authored piece that was also featured in the first MVCA student newsletter, Trailblazer Times, on the mic for fellow classmates. Zee then brought the outside element of showing a video featuring the Simpson family narrating and acting out Poe’s infamous The Raven. Throughout the lesson, Zee develops fantastic discussion with students prompting them to recall key literary terms, such as imagery, tone, and character. Her interactive activities are designed for students to highlight their knowledge and prepped with specific directions for appropriate whiteboard behavior. Finally, Zee wraps up the lesson with an extension and enrichment piece for the students eagerly seeking more Poe.

MVCA MS Science
Robin Moore – Middle School Earth Science – Robin has the essential elements of instruction down to a science. She continually strives to improve upon her practice, though, by increasing the rigor and quantity of formative assessments throughout the lesson as well as engaging students in activities of collaboration. Robin regularly utilizes breakout rooms for students to interact with course content in a structured way that still promotes exploration and inquiry. Robin’s graphics, attention to detail, and enthusiasm are present from lesson start to finish.
WELCOME SLIDE – Robin’s Welcome Slides are always full of information and guide students with the learning process.
STUDENT EXTRAS – Most recently, Robin used an extracurricular “party” to encourage students to complete coursework and eliminate zeroes in the gradebook. Her first “Earth Science Party” was held last week. J TLAC IN CCs – One of Robin’s BIGGEST strengths and accomplishments is her strive to have 100% participation. She has reinforced this behavior and her students now regularly promote it in the chat box during activities and formative assessments.
RECAPPING OBJECTIVES – Finally, Robin recently adjusted her lesson closing with recapping the lesson objectives and inquiring students to share out their feelings from the day on objective achievement.
