Comet Weekly Update
Granby High School - Week of May 24, 2021
Weekly Update Overview
A few reminders:
- This is it - we are in the home stretch. This is the time for all students to step it up and try to get the highest grade possible in their classes. Granby has implemented lots of grade incentives and has been highly flexible with students. We can't assist students who show no effort in logging in to class or turning in assignments. Students have to do their part as well. Students are encouraged to reach out to their teachers now to see what can be done to help achieve the highest grade possible.
- Summer School registration is ongoing. Please make sure you complete the pre-registration form below. School counselors are working as fast as they can to respond to summer school registration requests.

SOL Testing has not been waived for the 2020-21 School Year, and high school students are still required to meet verified credit requirements in order to graduate from high school. All students are expected to take their SOL test in the upcoming weeks in person at Granby High School, including students who are remaining virtual. There is no option to take the test virtually. Virtual learners will test on Wednesdays. NPS transportation will be provided, however, a request needs to be made by completing the form below. Students who will provide their own transportation can be dropped off at the bus port on the side of the building by the Tennis Courts. All students need to be at Granby High School by 7:15am.
- Parents - SOL testing is still required for high school students. The Virginia Department of Education did not waive SOL testing this year and students still need to earn a verified credit in specific subjects in order to graduate. We need students to show up for SOL testing on their scheduled dates, including those students who remained virtual. Students who are continuing to learn virtually test on Wednesdays. Students cannot take the SOL test at home and must come in person to take their SOL tests. We provided a socially distanced, mask-wearing, and sanitized environment for all students. Please see the SOL test schedule below.
- Please remember that if a student is taken out of school early during an SOL test, any work the student has completed will not be scored. Granby High School then has to file an irregularity with the Virginia Department of Education to determine whether the student will be allowed to test again. We ask that you scheduled appointments around your student's SOL schedule.

Final Exam Schedule Released
Even with graduation shifting, the final exam schedule for both underclassmen and seniors will not change. Tuesday, June 15th and Wednesday, June 16th, will remain asynchronous learning days.
- Final exams may be given virtually or in-person, depending upon the date and the student’s House assignment.
- Teachers may use projects and other means for final assessments for courses. A traditional “exam” is not required.
- Teachers are encouraged to be flexible with students as they work to recover grades as students work to reach passing grades in their courses.
- Final exams may only be used to help students’ grades, not to hurt them.
- Final exams may not be required for students to pass a course.
- If a final exam score will cause a reduction in the student's course grade, the final exam score is not to be entered into the gradebook or factored into the student's final grade.
Other reminders:
- Attendance is mandatory for all exam days for all students (9th-12th Grade), even if just checking in with your teacher.
