JOHNSTON ELEMENTARY
presents:
PAINT THE TOWN DECEMBER
A Multicultural Holiday Celebration
By Roger Emerson & John Jacobson
The holiday season will soon be upon us! With the coming of the season, comes our Johnston Winter Program. This year our school will be performing "PAINT THE TOWN DECEMBER.” Clear your calendars for December 15, 2022. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Monbeck Auditorium. I hope that everyone is able to be a part of this wonderful production.
Our show is a multicultural holiday celebration! Your child will need to wear an outfit appropriate to his/her part in the program. Please see the costume guide for a general idea of the costume. Please help enhance our program by providing costumes. This is not designed to cause anyone stress. You may do as much or as little in the creation of your child's costume as you deem appropriate. (New clothes are not expected or encouraged.)
All of the children have begun working on their parts in music class. I am pleased with the progress we have already made!! I hope that every student will be available to perform with us; however, I do know that plans may have already been made for the evening. See the link to the Google Form below; please use the form to let me know who will or will not be able to perform in Johnston’s Winter Program, PAINT THE TOWN DECEMBER. If you would be so kind as to fill out the form electronically by December 2nd, I would appreciate it. Thank you for your cooperation.
If your child(ren) will be performing with us; then they will ride a bus to Monbeck Auditorium on December 15th for a rehearsal. That evening you should have your child(ren) in costume at Monbeck Auditorium by 6:15 p.m. (auditorium doors will open @ 6 pm)
I look forward to seeing everyone on December 15th!!
Thank you,
Ms. Berdine

Things to do:
Johnston After School Playground Use
We absolutely love having our students play at our playground after school. However, there are one of two things that have to happen for your child to be allowed at the playground after school hours:
Come with a parent to supervise.
Go home to check in and then come back.
Unfortunately, we do not have staff that can supervise the playground after school, so we want to ensure our students are safe and accounted for. Thank you so much for your cooperation with this.
COVID Protocol
We want all of you to be aware of our COVID protocols for this academic year, so here is a note from our Health Services Team.
Please see the flowchart below. We are starting the year just like we ended the 2021-2022 school year.
Positive students and staff will be out for 5 days.
Day 0 is the symptom onset date or positive test date (whichever comes first).
Days 6-10 the student may be back in the building (if symptom-free) but must wear a mask unless participating in an athletic or P.E. activity.
Students must eat isolated on days 6-10.
These students will be tracked on the COVID trackers at each school.
If a student/staff member calls off ill with a persistent cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, they must be out and return after being symptom-free for 24 hours. If they call off Monday, they return on Wednesday, etc.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We hope to keep everyone safe and healthy as best we can.
Arrival Procedures
Doors open for students at 7:35 a.m. daily. Students who eat breakfast at school will be allowed entry beginning at 7:20 a.m at Door D. Anyone arriving after 7:50 a.m. will need to buzz and come into the main office to sign in.
Cars will enter the parking lot off Duluth Street (right turn only) and follow the curve to drop off students. Please pull up as far as you can and drop all your students off at one time. Have your children ready with their backpacks, lunch money, hugs, and kisses, so that when you stop they may exit the car quickly, and we can keep the drop-off line moving. The line can become backed up onto Duluth Street very quickly which causes safety issues for our parents, as well as other drivers.
Please drop off curbside only, and parents stay in their cars. Avoid dropping children off where they have to cross the street, this is extremely dangerous. It will be your responsibility to cross them if you choose to do this.
Please be mindful of other drivers and walkers. We know many of you have to get to work, and we want all children to be able to enter the building safely and on time.
Doors C (1st & 2nd) and B (Kindergarten, 3rd, & 4th) will be utilized for entrance as usual.
5th graders and Mrs. Torres's class will use Door G.
Dismissal Procedures
Grade K will exit through door J (FIVE minutes before the rest of the grade levels)
Grade 1 will exit through door C (main doors)
Grade 2 will exit through door B
Grade 3 will exit through door J
Grade 4 will exit through door I
Grade 5 and Mrs. Torres's class will exit through door G
Bus riders will exit through door J (a few minutes prior to the remainder of the school being dismissed where the buses will be waiting).
Cars may enter the parking lot off Duluth Street and follow the curve to pick up or park in the parking lot to walk up to get students.
We would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation as we strive to keep our Johnston families safe.
