A weekly update from Carleton Middle School.
Counselor Appreciation Week
This week is "National School Counselor's Week." We want to take a few moments to highlight the incredible work of Ms. Lane and Ms. Lenz, our outstanding counselors at Carleton.
Our counselors help your children transition to middle school and to high school, ensure they have a complete and accurate schedule, make sure our standardized testing (NWEA, WIDA, M-STEP) are handled in an efficient and professional manner, provide an open ear for difficult times in adolescence, and help teachers stay current with best practice regarding social/emotional concerns. They also continuously reach out to various organizations (in the district, county, and state) to make sure our students have the support they need to be emotionally, socially, and academically successful. They are caring mentors for our students and provide motherly support (and tough love) with our students.
Ms. Lane and Ms. Lenz are critical to our building and help both students and staff on a regular basis. I am appreciative of all they do for our school, and feel fortunate to work with them on a daily basis. On behalf of our entire community, I wish them a "Happy National Counselor's Week."

Booster Club Update
The school year is flying by, but we are not finished yet. The Booster Club is still very active, and busy, this time of year. For those who have been able to attend a meeting, or help at an event, we thank you! And for those who have not, please consider coming by one of our meetings to hear what's going on at Carleton. Not to mention it is almost time for elections for next years Board Members. So if you or someone you know may be interested in being on the board please have them reach out to us or attend an upcoming meeting. Our next meeting is March 7th.
Meanwhile, here's what is coming up...
We are currently planning a NEW EVENT at Carleton this year...our first DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT. Watch for the details coming very soon. We are looking at a date in the near future once the girl's basketball season is over. Start talking to your friends to form a team. And for those that want to play, but don't want to join a team, we have an opportunity for you as well. Don't miss out. Watch for the flyer.
Our next BOX TOPS DEADLINE for submission is February 27th. Every clip counts, so be sure to send in your box tops. The drop box is located in the main hallway outside the main office. Or turn it in to the main office.
We are also looking into two more PROFIT SHARING events. This is an opportunity for you and your family to dine at a local establishment, and have some of the profits from your bill come back to Carleton. Watch for dates and locations coming soon.
EIGHTH GRADE PARENT COMMITTEE NEEDED to begin thinking/planning the end of the year celebration. We are looking to make this an all day event for all 8th graders to attend. The Booster Club pays for a majority of this event. But additional funds may be needed depending on what is planned. If you would like to be a part of this planning, please meet with us March 1st at 6:30 in the Media Center.
HONOR ROLL STUDENT REWARD is coming soon. The Booster Club will be purchasing treats for those students who have been on the Honor Roll for the first half of the school year. There will also be an end of the year Honor Roll reward, as well as an "All A's" breakfast. So tell your students to keep up the hard work!
Some SPORTS BANQUETS have come and gone this year, and others are still ahead. The Booster Club is happy to support our athletes for the purchases needed for these Banquets.
It's never too late to get involved. We know by the time our kids reach middle school, parents may feel like they are not needed. Or that their kids don't want them around. But these three years are a critical time in their development. So don't be afraid to get involved, help at an event, reach out to the teachers/counselors, come to a sporting event or attend a meeting to hear what's going on. This is your school too! Let's make it a great learning environment.
