Message From Principal Webb
Dear families,
This week has been hard for many of us at Longfellow. We are a tight family here and I want to extend any support that I can regarding the student accident on Wednesday night.
Please remember we will have a student device refresh starting this week. Students onsite and online will be asked to bring their current devices and chargers to exchange for a new device.
Also please know that we ask online- materials to be returned starting anytime this week if your online teacher has asked you to.
All online materials at homes should be dropped off at the school no later than June 10th.
Finally, our Spring PTA fundraiser is happening right now! Join the final PTA meeting this Tuesday evening online.
Our online 6th-grade celebration is scheduled for June 10th. An invitation will be sent out to 6th-grade families and students this week.
Hugs,
Kelli Webb
Student Accident update:
Dear families,
It has been a hard week for our Longhorn family. As we learned of an accident that occurred Wednesday night in which second grade Longfellow Elementary student John Muhindo sustained serious injuries. John is currently in the hospital in the intensive care unit.
Our hearts are with John and his family and we are sending positive thoughts their way. School Counselors and Student Family Advocates are available to offer a supportive environment for students and staff who may be struggling with this situation. We will make students aware of how to access these resources and inform them that they will be available on an ongoing basis.
We will provide updates on John’s condition based on the family’s wishes as information becomes available.
Please reach out to us at school for any additional support you or your student may need.
I recognize that the trauma of this is likely deep and wide. Let me know how I can support you.
Hugs,
Kelli Webb
PTA Fundraiser
Dear Longfellow Families,
The PTA is having a spring fundraiser with the hopes of a full return to school next year. This event will help support classrooms, specials, and support programs! We also want to help build community by providing a school t-shirt for every student. See attached flyer for details. We hope that families able to contribute will do so!
Donations can be made directly using venmo, PayPal, or credit card at https://givebutter.com/G9sufB. Or you can return the flyer to school with cash or a check made out to Longfellow Elementary PTA.
Many thanks for your support!
Best,
Longfellow PTA

Onsite students will exchange their devices on June 1st.
OLP students will exchange devices in the following way:

Longfellow Elementary stands with all people of color in the fight against racial injustice and inequality. We all deserve to be safe and secure. Longfellow Elementary, as part of the Iowa City Community School District, will not tolerate racism, hate, and other discriminatory acts. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously said that, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” We will work hard to not let today’s injustice stop us from creating a better tomorrow for our school community. Please know that even though it is summer, you can reach out anytime.
Below you will also find links to resources that are available for our staff and our community. Stay safe and take care. #ICCSDtogether
