Ms. Gabos' Newsletter
Week of Monday, March 18th
This Week in Room 508
We will continue creating our Texas books. We will also begin reading and analyzing poetry. We will create our own name poems.
We are learning reading strategies that will help us sound out words we do not recognize instantly.
The strategies we will focus on are:
Lips the Fish: Get your lips ready to make the first sound in the word.
Stretchy Snake: S-t-r-e-t-c-h out the word.
Eagle Eyes: Use the picture for help.
Chunky Monkey: Look for a chunk you know.

Tryin' Lion: Reread the sentence.
Skippy the Frog: Skip the word, then hop back and read it.
You can use these strategies at home with your child to help them decode words!
