Central Community Smore

From the Principal
I want to start by saying thank you for all that you do. This past week has held many challenges, however I have been so encouraged to see social media posts of kiddos working through curriculum at home, parents embracing multiple roles, and the overall power of positivity in light of a strange and potentially scary time.
Last week my goal was to encourage parents to prioritize because you have so many roles during this time. This week my message is the same but over the past few days I've been able to hear many of your specific needs or perspectives.
- Some of you are feeling overwhelmed with instruction / some of you are asking for more!
- Some of you have at least one adult that can be with the kids at all times / some of you are juggling work and obligations that pull you away from home and your kids.
- Some of you are grand-parents filling in the gaps!
- Some of you are scared.
To all of you I'll say:
Do the best you can with what you have and reach out when you need help.
Our staff at Central Elementary have always gone above and beyond. Right now they are exceeding my highest expectations.
- Our teachers are working out the kinks of turning hours worth of instruction, differentiation, and assessment into something that can be managed remotely.
- Our technologists are working around the clock to trouble shoot everything from wifi and network issues to (let's be honest) lots of user errors.
- Our cafeteria staff and volunteers are making sure every pirate that needs food has it. District wide over 18,000 meals were distributed last week. At first I thought it was 8,000 but 18,080 was the most up to date number!
- Our office staff have been working behind the scenes on countless spreadsheets, virtual meetings, and sifting through updates from our state and district.
It's always been easy to have Pirate Pride and I've never been more thankful to be part of such a resilient and capable community. Keep your head up, we'll get to the other side of this thing together.
From our School Counselor, Mrs. Lance
If you feel like your child needs a phone call of encouragement, please email me and I would be happy to call and check on them. Also, if you feel like you could use some words of support during these next few weeks at home, please let me know. This is a difficult time which can cause anxiety, stress or frustration.
While you are helping your child learn at home, I have attached a website for a free app that you can download that helps you and your child practice mindfulness everyday. Free Mindfulness App
Core benefits of daily mindfulness practice:
- Reduce stress: Guided breathing and relaxation exercises are easy to do and replace fight or flight responses with calm.
- Boost immune system: Regular practice enhances health.
- Improve learning: With many students working online and at-home daily use helps kids focus and learn.
- Foster Resiliency: Teaches children tools to deal with challenges and the skills will last a lifetime.
**Bonus**
At school one of our daily routines is to hear from Mrs. Lance on the morning announcements! Feel free to follow the link to see Mrs. Lance and follow along for our pledges!
