A NOTE FROM MRS. B
Howdy Bronco Family! The Broncos are opening district play this week in football, and basketball season is upon us. That means Thanksgiving and Christmas aren’t that far off…YIKES! But, we have a lot of the fall semester ahead of us before that happens as well as fun activities. Next week is Red Ribbon Week. Check out this week’s newsletter for the dress up days.
Mornings are pretty chilly, but in typical West Texas fashion, the afternoons end up warm. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for our ever-changing weather. I also wanted send out a friendly reminder the last day for elementary students are allowed to wear shorts to school is Friday, October 27th. Beginning, Wednesday, November 1st, if your child comes to school wearing shorts, someone will be contacted to bring pants. Thank you for your help with this!
Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.
Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.
It’s ALWAYS great to be a Bronco!
Mrs. B
¡Hola familia Bronco!

3RD GRADE - MRS. HOUCHIN & MRS. SMITH
Hello fellow 3rd grade readers,
It has been such an amazing first quarter with your kiddos. We started the 2nd quarter with a bang! We started our nonfiction unit by going over all graphic and text features that authors use in nonfiction text. Students worked together to use background knowledge, context clues, and examples to sort nonfiction features with their purposes and examples. It is important for students to understand all graphic and text features in nonfiction because each has different purposes. This week we were introduced to the acronym SNOTS, standing for Small Notes On The Side. When reading nonfiction text, it is important to use annotations to take notes while reading. This is a fun way for students to practice taking notes for higher education.
In phonics, we reviewed final stable syllables, open vowels and the importances of double consonants before a vowel. We used background knowledge and coding skills to help break apart and decode unfamiliar words.
In writing, we are starting our informational research project. Each student picked an animal to gain more information about. We took a trip to the library to find books about their animal. I also allowed them to find books on Epicbooks.com to have two sources to use. We used graphic organizers to organize all of the information we found over our animal. Next week we will begin the writing process and begin writing an introduction.
In social studies, we are starting a new unit over maps and globes. Students are learning the elements and purposes of different types of maps.
REMINDERS:
Please check and sign your child’s green folder daily
Please work with your child on their daily homework
Spelling tests are every Friday
Please continue to read with your child for at least 20 minutes a night
Thank you for all you do,

Ciencias y estudios sociales de 4.º/5.º grado
4th & 5th Math
In 4th grade Math, we are still multiplying whole numbers and we will soon start to divide bigger numbers. This is when knowing multiplication math facts is very important.
-In 5th grade, we started with decimals and slowly working up to multiplying and dividing them. After decimals, we will work on fractions.
-All 4th and 5th Graders need to practice multiplication math facts every night for 5 minutes. Please, please, please…the numbers and the work is getting more challenging and not knowing multiplication math facts make it seem impossible. Some students shut down or do not turn in assignments.
Thank you for your support,
Stacy Gamez
Stacy Gamez.
