Welcome to SARIC!
We are excited to share our summer professional learning opportunities with you! In partnership with the Alabama Reading Initiative, we are offering sessions on the ELA COS, multisensory strategies, Alakids, language enrichment, and dyslexia. We are offering an ACLD PLU on the Alabama Coaching Framework. We are providing sessions focused on STEM integration provided by the National Institute for STEM Education. Our summer catalog is full of professional learning sessions aligned to our regional data and needs assessment.
As we move into summer, I look forward to continuing to partner with you in working for our Region 10 schools and districts. Region 10 National Board Certification Support
Region 10 National Board Certification Support
SARIC supports National Board certification candidates through their NBCT professional learning journey. Our cohorts meet each month to support one another through the process. Our regional cohort sessions are facilitated by Mrs. Kelly Lomax, NBCT, Region 10 NBCT Ambassador, and Dynette Ballard, MCPSS NBCT district facilitator.

PLUACLD1031 USA RIC Instructional Leaders Supporting Teachers through Coaching to Improve Learning PS# 277388
Description: The purpose of this professional study is to engage administrators and aspiring administrators in the role of observations, feedback, and coaching as tools to support teacher growth and improve student learning. Participants will investigate the ALSDE coaching framework, the role of instructional coaches to improve learning, and dive deeper into the concept of instructional leaders providing student-centered coaching. In addition, participants will analyze data and identify next steps for supporting teachers and students in the schools in which they serve. The study will include hands-on approaches for modules presented to support leaders in utilizing evidence-based leadership practices. It will also allow participants to reflect on current practices in observations, feedback, and coaching/support for teachers.

Gulf Coast Conference on the Teaching of Writing
The Gulf Coast Conference on the Teaching of Writing will be this summer from June 27th-30th in Point Clear, Alabama. SARIC will be providing six educator scholarships to the Gulf Coast Conference on the Teaching of Writing. The scholarship will provide the conference registration fee only. Any travel (hotel, mileage, per diem, etc.) or other related expenses to the conference will not be provided by SARIC.
Educators interested in receiving the scholarship (conference registration fee only) will need to please email saric@southalabama.edu for the scholarship application. The first six educators to return their completed application will receive the scholarship.

NAEP posters will be delivered to Region 10 districts this spring!
The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) is excited for all Regional Inservice Centers in Alabama to receive National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) posters for dissemination to all schools in region 10 that have teachers who teach 4th grade and/or 8th grade reading and mathematics before the 2022-2023 school year begins. The posters will be delivered this spring to each districts’ Central Office, Curriculum and Instruction department, should be given copies of these posters to have on hand during the school year.

Spring Region 10 Curriculum Directors' Meeting
- Date: May 13, 2022
- Time: 10:00 am-12:00 p.m.
- Location: USA College of Education and Professional Studies conference room
- This year, we will host 3 meetings with the curriculum directors/professional learning directors who serve as direct liaisons to the In-Service Center. This is our 3rd meeting.
- Each of these regional meetings will occur 2-3 weeks after the ALSDE's Curriculum and Instruction meetings. The purpose of this timing is so that we may discuss specific updates, data, and requests for support based upon the information shared at the ALSDE meetings. All regional support including ARI leadership specialists, regional inservice center director, AMSTI director, ASIM, ALSDE Office of School Improvement specialist, and ATIM specialist will be invited to attend as we discuss ways we can support the region. We will share ideas and network to share best practices within our region.
