Marquette News and Notes

From the Principal's Desk
- Cold weather is here and as you start pulling winter coats out of the closet, please make sure you label them with a first and last name.
- Our Lost and Found is packed with lunch boxes, coats, fleeces and more. Please take a look as we will soon have to donate many items to conserve space.
- Please take some time to register for a Trunk at our Trunk or Treat!
Trunk or Treat!
Trunk or Treat is a beloved Marquette tradition, where parents decorate and open their trunks to the cutest trick-or-treaters around! It's a great way to see friends and trick or treat in a safe environment.
Trunk or Treat will be Sunday, Oct. 28, from 1-3 p.m.
There will be three bounce houses, face painters, balloon makers, RUB BBQ Food Truck, Kupcakz cupcakes, popcorn and cotton candy!
We are looking for 34 trunks this year. If you are interested in doing a trunk: Trunk set up starts at 12 and you must stay until 3:30 that day. Each trunk should be decorated (to what extent is up to you) and should provide plenty of candy for trick-or-treaters. We recommend at least 10 large bags of candy. Please also let us know if you need electricity -- we must know ahead of time!
If you have questions please contact Lacy Daley lacyrn@live.com or Ann Essman annessman@me.com

Empowering God's Children
As in past years, we will be presenting the Diocese of Tulsa's program Empowering God's Children. This year, however, we will be coordinating the lessons so that all grades present the program the same week. We have examples in the office of the program and the website is listed below. It is important that you "opt-out" by signing the form (attached at the bottom of this newsletter) if you DO NOT want your child participating. Please see below for more details.
Marquette will present a sexual abuse prevention program, the Teaching Safety – Empowering God’s Children program, to our students the week of Nov. 12-16. The creators of the Protecting God’s Children® program developed the Teaching Safety – Empowering God’s Children program. This program is provided to us by the Diocese of Tulsa and is a part of our ongoing effort to help create and maintain a safe environment for children and to protect all children from sexual abuse.
The scheduled lesson is being offered to all students at Marquette. As a parent, you have the right to choose whether your student participates. We encourage you to read the attached “overview” and “lesson plan” so you’ll be aware of the nature of the Teaching Safety – Empowering God’s Children program. If you have questions about the program or the lesson, please contact your child’s teacher or administrator. If you determine that you DO NOT want your child to participate, please complete the “opt-out” form at the bottom of this page, and return it to your child’s teacher no later than November 2.
For more information on the Teaching Safety – Empowering God’s Children program, visit the VIRTUS Online™ website at www.virtus.org.

Prayer Request
Heavenly Father as we begin this new school year I pray that you would give us an understanding and discerning heart in our thoughts, words, and actions with our children, with their teachers, and with our fellow parents. Help us to be slow to anger but quick to respond to the needs, disappointment, and problems that others are facing.
Keep me Lord from developing a judgmental spirit that can so often jump to the wrong conclusions and prevent me for speaking too hastily, which can so often cause sadness and pain to those that are in need and trouble.
Lord as a community we want to be used by You as a channel of blessing and of loving compassion. Teach us, Lord, how to be the models for our children and we pray that You would change us from the inside out to be the person that You would have me to be. Lord, bless this school as we celebrate 100 years of Catholic education and may we do all things pleasing to You. Amen.
- For Mrs. Seck's Paternal Grandmother who recently passed away.
- For Mrs. Mayfield's daughter who is expecting and will be giving birth soon.
- For our students, parents, and teachers that we will experience a year of faith-filled development.
- For our Priests and for an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and religious life.
- For those separated from their families due to military deployment.
