Today, the laurel tree grows all over the Mediterranean. Turkey is one of the main exporters. Because of its poor resistance to freezes, laurel cannot be grown outdoors in more Northern regions.

Dried Bay Leaves are usually used in the culinary scene, as a taste adder if you left i in a pot of boiling water for 5 min then took it out, it would be releasing menthol and eucalyptus.

Bay leaves have been used medicinally for centuries. They were eaten fresh or dried and infused into warm water to be taken internally for a variety of ailments.


Bay leaves also have astringent properties, which could help stop secretions due to infection and help reduce excessive sweating brought on by illness.

In the ancient times bay leaves were believed to alleviate bee and wasp stings and the Romans considered them to be a symbol of glory.
