Winter Park High School Band Notes

March 3, 2019

CONGRATULATIONS to all three bands for very strong performances this weekend at Concert MPA. All three bands earned a Superior rating in Sight-Reading, while Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band earned all Superiors on stage and Concert Band earned an Excellent rating on stage. Those are very strong ratings from a tough panel of adjudicators. Well done to all! Let's work to take the Spring Concert performances at another level!

This week we have our Band Picnic on Saturday, March 9 from 11 AM - 2 PM. STUDENTS - Please RSVP for the Picnic HERE. The Band Council is asking that you bring a food item to pass. Please see the Google form previously linked for what to bring. RSVP by Wednesday, March 6. PARENTS - we need your help volunteering for the picnic! Please go to the Charms calendar to sign up to help. Sharon Flood will be in contact early this week with more details.

As we approach Spring Break, now would be a good time to take inventory of your instrument and it's condition. This time of year is a great time for instruments to really get a good "once-over" before the repair shops begin getting busier with summer repairs. As always, ask the repair shop you take your instrument to for a loaner instrument while your personal instrument is in for repair. That way, no time is missed in class without an instrument.

Look this week for materials for upcoming Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I auditions to be posted. As you begin to prepare for auditions, keep working on your scales and sight-reading skills. We have sight-reading materials in the Band office for students to utilize in preparation.

Finally, Band Fair Share #4 and Guard Fair Share #8 - the final Fair Share installments of this school year - are due this Wednesday, March 6. Please be timely about clearing any obligation now before we begin to approach the end of the school year. All past due obligations can be viewed at any time and at your convenience on your Charms account. Please contact myself and Mary Beth Johnston if you have any questions.
