Science/ELA Project Update
This week students delved into CRISPR, a gene editing technology that is being used to reshape our world. Discussions included the ethics of genetically modifying humans, and whether the government should require labels on genetically modified foods. Students displayed their opinions on these topics on posters, and discussed their positions in a gallery walk.
In lab we are investigating the dirtiest places in the school. Students collected bacterial samples from different locations throughout the school, and are currently growing the samples for further investigation after break.
Math/Coding Update
In math, students continued exploring exponential functions. To enhance their understanding, students compared linear and exponential models when investigating real world scenarios from finance and engineering.
Participation in Government Update
Technology Leadership
P-TECH students have volunteered to be a part of a professional development session for elementary teachers. The students will be working with Albany Can Code to help the teachers design coding lessons that they will bring back to their classes. The session will take place on February 28 at the Capital Region BOCES headquarters at 900 Watervliet-Shaker Road in Albany.
