Padilla Elementary School
Providing every student with the keys to open the doors of their future.
A Note from Principal Purfurst
This week, we are focused on helping students grow as leaders. One of the Keys at Padilla is Leadership. Part of being a leader is showing others how to be safe at school. In particular, we are working with students on safe bodies and safe words. We are working to help students understand that it is important for us to be safe when we are playing by keeping our hands, feet, and bodies to ourselves. It is also important to keep each other safe by using kind and safe words. Please help us reinforce this message at home by discussing with your child each night this week how they showed leadership at school by having a safe body and using safe words!
At the end of this week, a few students who do an incredible job living the Key of Leadership will have a special reward on Friday!
October Count Day!
During the week leading up to October 1st, we will have lots of cool activities and events for kids. Stay tuned for those details!
Conferences
However, for many families, formal conferences are an important time to connect with your child's teacher. Regardless of how or when your conference with your child's teacher takes place, we believe it is important for all families to have intentional time to connect around your child's academic, social, and emotional progress at school.
Formal conferences will happen the evenings of Wednesday, October 20th and Thursday, October 21st. Due to current layers of protection in 27J Schools, these will be virtual conferences. More details about how to sign up and participate in conferences will be coming soon!
Every Minute Matters!
School starts at 7:50 AM. Students must be inside the building by that time to be marked present. If your child arrives and enters the building after 7:50 AM they will be marked tardy.
If you arrive at school after 7:55 AM, please walk your child to the main entrance and sign them in at the main office. There are no staff members outside to help guide your child into the building after that time.
A special note for Kindergarten families: Please make sure you walk your child to the main entrance if you are running late. The side entrance is not monitored and if there is not an adult at the gate to the preschool playground, then students will not be able to enter through the usual entrance.
PTO Update and Next Meeting
Based on that survey, we will be holding our next PTO meeting on Tuesday, September 21st from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the Learning Commons. During that meeting we will be discussing some initial structures for PTO based on feedback from the first meeting and from staff at Padilla. And, most excitingly, we will starting planning for a Halloween event!

Breakfast and Lunch Menus
Please note that, due to product availability shortages, there may be last minute substitutions to nutrition services menus from time to time.
Adult Learning
This week teachers were introduced to two Padilla protocols, the evidence protocol and the observation protocol. These protocols will be used on a bi-weekly basis as a tool to help monitor progress toward our professional learning goals. The first and third weeks of each month teachers will observe student learning in their colleagues' classrooms and use the observation protocol to elicit takeaways that they can implement in their own classrooms. The 2nd and 4th weeks of each month will be an opportunity for teachers to analyze data toward their professional learning goal using the evidence protocol. The evidence protocol will help them identify and plan a next step. By providing teachers with consistent systems and structures we know our teachers will not only reach their identified goal, but exceed it!
