2021 OHS "Grab & Give" Event
Please support our 2021 OHS "Grab and Give" event for this upcoming holiday. This event will benefit our OHS families in need. You will find gift tags clipped to a string of lights hanging in the window by the front office. Each tag has an OHS student's (that have been identified to be in need) sizes and needs on it. Grab a tag, take a picture of it, and text the picture to (919)886-8529 along with your name. You can shop for the student and/or give a gift card.
Food Lion and Walmart gift cards are also needed for our families in need to assist with their holiday meals. The deadline for all gifts is Wednesday, 12/15/21. Deliver all gift cards, monetary donations, and/or unwrapped gifts directly to our social worker, Ms. Brown.
Orange High PTSO Updates
Since September, the PTSO has been able to accomplish the following because of an amazing group of community members and parents that have stepped up to the plate. We have:
- Provided Back to School Breakfast for Teachers & Staff and Beverage Truck for Teacher Workday
- Supported $1900 of mini-grants that included 3-D printing, books, art projects, and a calming room
- Donated $1000 worth of Amazon WishList/DonorsChoose supplies
- Volunteered to photocopy for teachers
- (Upcoming) Provide lunch for teachers and staff.
Some of these items are small in comparison, but together we are lightening the load!
None of this would be possible without your support, time, energy, and your dollars.
Special thanks to M. Clark and their family for donating a humongous amount of supplies!

SACAC - Southern Association for College Admission Counseling
HISTORY AND PURPOSE
In 2011, SACAC launched the Extend the Dream Scholarship as a way in which to honor deserving students with scholarship assistance to help cover some of the gapped costs in attending a postsecondary institution. The scholarship has been limited to students who attend high schools located within the nine member states and the Caribbean.
In 2018, SACAC renamed the scholarship the Horizon Award and repurposed the funding to better reflect the mission of SACAC. While there remains a need to support students in pursuing a postsecondary education, the Horizon Award will now also acknowledge deserving college counselors and CBO advisors in a similar manner.
In 2021, The Horizon Award will be awarded to five high school students in the amount of $1,000 for one-time use. As a matching award, a college counselor or Community Based Organization advisor who has been nominated by the chosen students will receive $1,000 to be used towards professional development opportunities, such as conference registration fees, annual membership dues for SACAC, or fees associated with participation in any SACAC event.
Application Criteria And Awarding Process
Students eligible to apply for the Horizon Award are high school seniors attending schools within the nine member states of SACAC (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee) and the Caribbean. In addition to the application itself, students will be asked to supply a name and email address for a recommender.
