Hello FUSD Staff and Community,
Please join me in congratulating Christy Taylor, FUSD’s 2022 Teacher of the Year! Ms. Taylor has worked in FUSD since 2009, and is currently a kindergarten teacher at Cabrillo Elementary.
Teaching requires an indescribable amount of personal and professional giving. Giving time, energy and countless emotions. I offer my gratitude to Mrs. Taylor and all our educators for giving so much of their passion and dedication to our students.
I want to thank our Teacher of the Year committee members for their time and dedication to honoring our educators, and acknowledge our outstanding finalists: Mohamed Algarmi from Centerville Junior High School, Audrey Suratos from Robertson High School, Jovana Manjabosco from Blacow Elementary, Erin Castillo from John F. Kennedy High School, and Erica Maciel from Patterson Elementary.
Thank you all for your continued support for our students, staff and schools.
At-Home Test Kits Available to All Students and Staff
FUSD received an allocation of at-home COVID-19 antigen test kits for use before returning from Spring Break, which is April 15 to 24. Each preK-12 student (ages 2+) and staff member will receive a test kit, these will be distributed in advance of Spring Break directly through school sites and employees’ work locations.
Please look out for additional information, including pick-up options for substitutes, next month.
Save the Date: Bond Updates
Please join FUSD on the evening of May 4 for a virtual update to our community on Bond-funded construction projects.
Each attendance area has work scheduled through the coming years; the biggest projects underway are those to transition Centerville, Thornton and Hopkins junior highs, which currently serve grades 7-8, to middle schools serving grades 6-8.
Our community made these and other projects possible through its generous support of Measure E in 2014 to build and improve FUSD facilities. The investment reflects our community’s commitment to our students, staff and schools.
We’ll share more information on this event in the coming weeks.
Native American Studies Program
FUSD’s Native American Studies Program serves our American Indian/Alaskan Native students through academic tutoring, cultural enrichment and more.
Health & Safety Protocols
The following health and safety provisions are in effect for FUSD:
FUSD strongly recommends students and staff continue wearing masks after March 11
Masks will continue to be available for all students and staff at all school offices, including child-size N95 masks at elementary schools and adult-size N95 masks at all schools
All students and staff must complete the student COVID-19 screening or self-check for staff every day before entering campus
Students or staff exposed to or with symptoms of COVID-19 must follow the COVID-19 Flowchart for Parents or the COVID-19 Flowchart for Staff
PCR testing for students and staff available weekly at each school site, and available at the District Office every school day
See FUSD’s COVID-19 Safety Plan for all current health and safety protocols.
