Newsletter Week 8 Term 3

Titahi Bay Intermediate School Wednesday 15th September 2021

Principal's Korero

Welcome back everybody to the remainder of Term 3. Covid-19 has definitely changed our lives for a little bit but hopefully we are back on track and heading in the right way to achieve Alert Level 1.

I would like to thank whānau who communicated with our team during Lock down when you had questions or were unsure of how the Google Classrooms platform worked. Also thank you to the whānau requested hard packs during lock down to enable your child to engage in learning. We all understand that this time has it's challenges as our team are all in the same situation with juggling on-line learning with our students as well as their own children.

I would like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment that our team put in to cater for the learning needs of our students, even if it was the social contact that our students craved. I would like to thank Stephanie Gardiner who created our Choice Board and Emma O'Reilly for creating the "Google Classrooms Instruction Guide" this helped whānau to understand our on-line learning platform that is currently used in learning programmes. Below is our Friday Fun Day on-line participants who joined in on a schoolwide Whare game and Kahoot's created by our students.

We would like to welcome a new face to our Titahi Bay Intermediate team for the remainder of the year. Marcus Hewitt started with us on Monday as an additional teacher aide and will be working in a range of classrooms.

Big picture

School Events affected by Covid-19

With the Covid-19 Lockdowns and movements in Alert Levels, we have had a number of events cancelled or re-scheduled.

  • Inter-Intermediate Netball Tournament
  • The Hilarious Hypnotist Fundraiser
  • Cancellation of the AIMS Games
  • Gnomes and Garden School Production - re-scheduled to next term
  • Kotahitanga o Tuauru o Porirua - cancelled
  • Waka Ama - will resume under Alert Level 1
  • All inter-intermediate school sport - will resume under Alert Level 1
  • Boxing - will resume in Term 4 whether in Alert Level 2 or 1

We would like to thank those people who were supporting our AIMS Games team to get to this amazing event, however due to Covid 19 this is the second year in a row where this event has been cancelled. I would like to acknowledge Chaedyn Ngaroi and Jamie Mill for giving up their time to coach this team as well as the various whānau who supported the fundraising. Fingers crossed for 2022.

TBI Quiz Night - Success Story

The weekend before lockdown we were lucky to have held a very successful quiz night. A big

to all of our community who supported this event. A good amount of money was fundraised which will go towards the purchase of a heavy duty reversible basketball/netball system for all of our students to use.

Gnomes and Gardens Production

Our school production of Gnomes and Gardens was meant to be performed last week. We are keen for this to continue and we will re-schedule for a time in Term 4 as our cast were busy learning words and are keen to perform.

We are hoping that next term sometime we will drop down to Alert Level 1 and if we are in Alert Level 2 we could do shows to the restricted number of 50 people. This may mean that our students get to perform more shows. If this isn't viable we will then look at recording it and putting it out for whanau to watch. Fingers crossed.

I would like to thank Allie Rutherford who again has spent many hours creating the costumes for the Production.

Healthy School Lunches

There has been a great improvement in the lunches being provided with a change in menu. On the day of Lockdown our students enjoyed their first warm lunch provided by Kapura. Students were served a good serving of Lasagne with a number of students coming back for seconds.

We have our next warm lunch coming up next Tuesday - yummy, yummy.

With a number of students still making their way back to school so we have a number of left over lunches. It is great to see students coming in to take some home as we do not want it going to waste.

Upcoming Events
