GLVN Bulletin
News for GLVN Volunteers (Thông Tin cho Thầy Cô GLVN)
Dear Catechists and TAs:
It feels like we are settling into our routine for Sundays now, and we appreciate all the great input and feedback from all of you on the changes and improvements we have been trying to make for our program.
I wanted to share with you that the Parent Committee had their first meeting last Sunday. The turnout for the meeting was great, and the discussion centered around a lot of GLVN topics, which shows that our students' parents are invested in their child's faith formation. After the meeting, I had the chance to mingle and chat with many parents, and they continue to share lots of interesting ideas that we will continue to consider and discuss with all of you. The partnership with our parents has begun!
Please continue to let us know what you need from the parents to make the faith formation experience for your students better, and we will work with the Parent Committee to communicate those needs to parents. We hope that our partnership with the Parent Committee will help all our catechists in your efforts to lead your students encounter Christ in more meaningful and life-changing ways.
Lots of important news in today's bulletin, particularly related to your class time the next few weeks. Thank you for taking the time to read these updates.
And thank you as always for your dedication to the program and your sacrifices for our parish youth.
Have a blessed week!
In Christ,
Chi

Safe Environment Lesson for ALL Classes (Sunday, Oct. 16)
As part of the Archdiocese commitment to protecting children and youth, all students in parish faith formation programs must attend an age-appropriate lesson about personal safety and sexual abuse. The parish must report the completion of these lessons to the Archdiocese as part of a Fall Audit.
In order to meet the deadline for submitting the Fall Audit to the Archdiocese, our GLVN must complete this lesson on Oct. 16 during our GLVN class time. Sorry for the short notice on this. We are still learning about these Archdiocese requirements and appreciate your patience and flexibility with regard to this.
At 10:30 a.m. this Sunday 10/16, please bring your class to the following locations:
- Gym – VL1 to L2
- Church Basement – L3 to L6
- Cafeteria – L7-10
Please stay with your students and help us keep them quiet and focused on these important lessons. Thank you!
All Saints Day Celebrations (Sunday, Oct. 30)
The parish is giving us a wonderful gift for our All Saints activity! They are bringing in a Catholic evangelist named Jim Cruise to our parish. He is an inspiring comedian, musician, and keynote speaker who brings laughter and joy to youth and families as he shares Christ through his program. Jim has a specific program about All Saints, so it is the perfect way for our GLVN program to learn in a fun and different way. It will be a fun afternoon for students and catechists! (If you want to read more about him, visit http://www.catholicentertainers.com/.)
Here are the details for Sunday, October 30:
Please be prepared to take short break from your regular teaching time as Cha stops by your class for the blessing of your saint image, crucifix and class. This will take about 2-3 minutes per class, and Cha will begin at 10:00 with VL1 first and ending with L11 by the break time. He will also bless the GLVN office and Teacher’s Lounge and Student Lounge at the end (possibly during the break time), so join us if you can for our own blessing.
11:45-1:00 – All School All Saints Activity (Guest Presentation)
- 11:45 – students meet in their classrooms as normal after break
- 11:50 – teachers bring their classes to the gym (please be prompt so the program can start on time)
- 12:00 – entertainment program begins
The parish Family Ministry program will also be inviting parents to come and enjoy the entertainment program and learn with their children.

As the Year of Mercy comes to a close, we want to take the opportunity to go on a mini-pilgrimage with our GLVN Ban Dieu Hanh, catechists and TAs and your families!
We are working through the logistics on things and hope to share more details by the end of this week. However, wanted to let you know the initial plans so that you can save-the-date if you would like to join us.

Cost to You: We are working on ways to cover the cost of bus transportation, so stay tuned!
Advent Retreat (Saturday, December 3)
To help our students and catechists prepare their hearts to welcome Baby Jesus this Christmas, we have invited Frere Phong to come to our parish for our Advent Retreat.
Please mark these dates/times on your calendar. Teachers/TAs for L3-L10, we ask that you be present during the youth retreat time to support your students.

Important Reminders
Clean Up
Please help Ban Phu Huynh who are cleaning our classrooms by having your students place their chairs on their tables at the end of class.
Early Dismissal
For the safety of the students, all parents who come to your class to pick up a child early should have a pink Early Dismissal slip. If they do not have this slip, please do NOT allow the parent to take the child. Please politely ask them to go to the office to get a slip. It only takes them a minute to do so and ensures the safety of all our students. Thank you for your help with this.
Morning Prayer Together
Don't forget to join us exactly at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday morning in the Teacher's Lounge for morning prayer together. It will be brief (2-3 minutes) so that you can get to your classrooms before 10. Whether there are 30 of us or just 2 of us -- this brief prayer time will take place every Sunday, so please join in to offer up our day to Jesus!
