#FallYall
It sure felt like FALL was here a few mornings this week! I love the cooler temperatures and crisp mornings....but I do NOT miss snow and it was snowing back in Ohio, Indiana, and Iowa last week! We are so lucky to live on the coast!
Because of Hurricane Michael and our no school day, we sent progres reports home Friday. If your child has still not gotten their progress report, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
The first week of Quarter Two was ELITE! There were a lot of great things happening in our classrooms! We are ExExExCited for the next eight weeks!

#ReadersAreLeaders (The 5) WIN!
WIN time Works!
How you can support WIN time at home:
We are proud to offer WIN time daily to our scholars to grow a culture of readers!
1. Encourage reading at home!
2. Help your child find a great book
3. Go to the library
4. Get on your iBooks and download samples of some classics! I just downloaded James and the Giant Peach by Ronald Dahl!
5. Do a read aloud together!
Please support your child in the #OctoberSelfieReading Challenge! Prizes for all who participate! #ReadersAreLeaders
Notes from Ms. Raeburn (The 10)
We are ready and ExExExCited to kick off the second quarter!
The second nine weeks is a critical time period in the school year because scholars are in a routine and have been in school now for 9 weeks. We will be taking MAP in December and two reading inventory assessments to track progress of our scholars. It is important for us to do these measures to make sure our instructional practices are meeting the needs of our scholars.
Also this month is Red Ribbon week and we have lots of exciting events planned, including dress up days that are consistent across Lanier, BCES, and BCHS. Stay tuned for information about those days, including an Anti-Bullying day during that week.
This week I want to highlight an article that was shared via twitter about social media and what our children are doing and learning on social media. I have three children, they all have iPhones. They all have SnapChat, Twitter, InstaGram, Facebook accounts. Do I know what they are doing at all times on social media? Probably not. Do I know who they are talking to all the time? Probably not. We definitely try to stay on top of the social media craze at BCMS- we know about secret apps that our kids use to hide when they are on-line or hide pictures.
Social Media is not going away. In the middle level years, social media can dominate or devastate a middle level scholar. Please take the time to read the article and stay on top of your child's social media accounts.
In January we are going to kick off a new event at BCMS: Our Saturday Spectacular!
We will be offering Math Enrichment and Literacy Enrichment for scholars on Saturday from 9-12 as well as a Parent University from 9-10 to go dissect the Extended Writing piece on GMAS. We are looking forward to offering Saturday opportunities to grow our scholars and to support our families! Stay tuned for more details!
The peeks of the week are listed under our "weekly updates" tab on our website. We hope you are finding this information helpful in keeping up with the day to day of your child and what they are doing at school.
Other #BeBCMS Nuggets:
E+R=O
I hope you have noticed the posters and visual reminders around our school. E+R=O is a simple skill. The E stands for the event (what happened), the R stands for how your responded (your action) and the O stands for the Outcome (what did you get). We are helping our scholars to think about E+R=O in every situation. Our goal is to help our scholars begin to see and understand that the better their R is, the better their O will be!
