KNIGHTHAWK FAMILY NEWS

PLEASANT KNOLL MIDDLE SCHOOL

Message from Mr. Young

Knighthawk Family,

Happy Summer!!!! As the 2016-2017 school year has come to an end, we hope that all of our students are getting excited about being Knighthawks in 2017-2018. I have had a wonderful time meeting all our future students and parents over the last two months. The building is really starting to take shape as construction has really made progress in recent weeks. As construction continues, we will continue to update you on dates for family tours. As of right now, final inspection is scheduled for mid July. We are hoping to have some times when you will be able to come and see the building in early August. Please continue to call or email us if you have any questions (803)548-8057.

Together in Education,

Grey Young, Principal

Meet Mrs. Hustedt

Cori Hustedt is the newest member of the Pleasant Knoll Middle School family. She will serve as one of the two assistant principals at Pleasant Knoll Middle, starting in July 2017. Ms. Hustedt has a bachelor’s degree from Charleston Southern and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Queens University. She was formally a science and ELA teacher at Banks Trail Middle School, where she served as an administrative intern. Ms. Hustedt is a proud product of the Fort Mill School District, having attended Gold Hill Elementary as a kindergartner and then graduating from Fort Mill High School in 2007. Ms. Hustedt completed the Foundation of School Leadership program led by the SC Department of Education, and she also served on the construction design team for Pleasant Knoll Middle School.

2017-2018 Pleasant Knoll Middle School PTO Board Members!

Congratulations to our 1st PTO Board at Pleasant Knoll Middle School. Please see the message below from our PTO Board.

Hello Knighthawk families!

We would first like to thank all of our Knighthawk families for your participation in our inaugural PTO election. It is our privilege to serve our school community and we thank you for your support.

Now that the school year has passed by and we head into long summer days filled with summer camps, and family vacations, the start of a new school year can seem like a distant horizon. While this may be true for the moment, we all know that summer will fly by us in an instant and the beginning of a new academic year in a new school with a new culture and tradition will be here before we know it. We are already hard at work setting up the PTO as a non-profit corporation with state and federal entities and planning/setting up fundraising activities to support our school and students. We will send email blasts with future updates but we encourage you to “like” and follow us on Facebook (@PleasantKnollMiddle PTO) to stay informed with us over the summer months. Many of you have been gracious enough to volunteer your time and talent to assist the PTO with various activities and we will be reaching out to you individually as we approach those activities. If you have not yet volunteered and would like to do so, please let us know. We also welcome you to email us at pleasantknollmiddlepto@gmail.com with any ideas or suggestions on what you would like to see from your PTO.

Thank you again for your support of our school, educators and children and, we hope you all have a wonderful summer.

President - Chris McGann

Vice President - Kendra King

Treasurer - Dawn Long

Secretary - Wendy Wilken

Don't forget SUMMER READING!

Click here for a link to the book list. Complete one form (student must log into Google account) for each book read from the PKMS Summer Reading list, for a total of TWO forms. Please remember, we encourage students not to pick, I Will Always Write Back, as we plan to use that for our One Book, One School initiative in the fall. Email Mrs. Nees with any questions at neesk@fortmillschools.org.

2017-2018 Student Re-enrollment Now Open!

Re-enrollment, applicable to currently enrolled Pre-K through 11th graders (2016/17 school year), provides parents the opportunity to review/update important student information and pay for school-related fees for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. Recently enrolled kindergarten students through the 2017/18 screening process (in April) do not need to re-enroll since they are already registered for the next school year.

On May 4, 2017, parents were emailed student account information and instructions. If an email was not received, please check your email's "clutter or junk" folders.

Re-enrollment instructions can be found by clicking here. The username is the student's full PowerSchool ID number. The password is the student's birthday (MM/DD/YYYY). If the student's id number is not known, parents can sign into their Parent Portal account (via a computer desktop, not the mobile APP) to obtain their student's id. Or, they can contact their child's school for this information.

Football Workouts

All rising 7th and 8th graders that are interested in playing football for PKMS next year will start voluntary summer workouts this week (June 5). They will be every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-7:00PM. These will take place at the Fort Mill High School practice field (grass area between parking lot and stadium). You must have a completed physical dated after April 1, 2017 to participate in the workouts. If you have any questions, please email Jamie Sims at pkmsfootball@gmail.com. Thanks and we are looking forward to seeing all those interested at the workouts.
