Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
January 11, 2018
Happy New Year! I expected to share that greeting with you last week! Hopefully, our weather warms up a bit! A new year always ushers in the sense of renewal – a renewal of purpose and a collective commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, faith formation and service. January is always about fresh beginnings and positive change. I love the promise of the New Year and all the possibilities that exist for our students here at Our Lady of Good Counsel.
- Catholic Schools Week will begin on Sunday, January 28th. We will hold an Open House on that day from 11:00-1:30. Come tour our school to see all that we have to offer and visit our brand new, state of the art TV Production Studio. On display that day will also be the choices for the school uniform for next year! Come get a sneak peek and cast your vote! On Tuesday, January 30, OLGC will be participating in a "Day of Giving." This is an opportunity to give a monetary donation that will assist in supporting the updates needed to ensure that our school moves successfully into the future! Our goal for this year's Day of Giving is $20,000. Funds raised on this day will be used for the renovation of our Media Center transforming it into an innovative and cutting edge Digital Learning Commons. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting venture!! Check out more detailed information on CSW below.
- To assist in promoting our Open House, we have purchased lawn signs advertising this event. We are asking school families to sign out a lawn sign and place it at your home or business. If you are interested and can do this, please contact the school office.
- To provide our students with the most up-to-date classroom environment, we are beginning to reinvent what our classrooms look like which is critical in affecting student morale and learning. The first phase of this will be our Kindergarten classroom. In order to accomplish this goal, we have received an anonymous donation in the amount of $15,000! We are incredibly grateful to our donor which has afforded us the opportunity to accelerate our plans to have this project completed for next school year. Stay tuned for photos as we go through this process.
- Please be aware of a new policy beginning on Tuesday, January 16. We will no longer be heating students' lunches brought from home. Please understand that this is a safety issue should a student get burned. We do not know if things are heated to the right temperatures. Please inform your children of this policy, as we do not want to be put in a position to tell a student that we can not heat their lunch.
- The Sweetheart Dance will take place on Friday, February 9th. Please note that absolutely NO tickets will be sold at the door and ONLY OLGC students may attend. This is a dance intended for fathers and daughters. If a father can not attend, another family member, friend, or special person may attend.
- Please be aware that those students who had ordered from the lunch menu will be given credit for the two snow days on next month's menu. Please carefully look for the credited days on the new menu, circle them, and you will not need to remit payment for those two days.
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God's Peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley

"Virtue of the Month"
The virtue for the month of January is perseverance. Perseverance pushes you to work through challenges. Having perseverance means when you are facing a challenge, you use your mind and body to overcome it. Perseverance means you are able to wait and work through difficulties even when you want to quit. If you see someone displaying the virtue of perseverance, fill out a virtue slip for them. The winners will be announced at our next Community Homeroom.
