NEWS FROM DR. CHAUSSEE
Student transitioning…
Children and their parents are usually very excited about who their teacher will be next year. To ease that potential anxiety and have them perhaps be better prepared, we will continue with the procedure for letting students know who their next year’s teacher will be. Each student will meet their teacher on the last day of school, May 26. The fifth grade teachers will go “pick up” their future (current fourth grade) students, then the fourth grade teachers will find their new students next, etc. The students will spend about 20-30” with their new teacher and classmates. Then they will go back to their current classroom. Students not returning next year will be included. If you know of any new student to Abbott please have them call the office for the time and more details.
Anytime a major change is undertaken, there’s always a bit of nervousness about how it will work. Logistically, we may have some minor errors as we move 450 children throughout the building. In the past, a couple of kids ended up in the wrong rooms, but it worked out. Hopefully it will all be for the positive. Parents will still receive a letter in the mail over the summer confirming the placement. Parents have been given an opportunity to have some input into this decision; therefore, NO classroom changes will be made as class lists have been finalized.
NO SCHOOL FOR KINDERGARTEN
We will be having Kindergarten Roundup that day so our current kindergartners have the day off!
COLLEGE 4 KIDS
This is a reminder that Abbott will host College 4 Kids from Metropolitan Community College this summer. We now have paper copies of their catalog in our office. Registration began on 2/3 at www.mccneb.edu/c4k or call 531 622-5437. This summer the classes at Abbott will be from 6/13-6/17. There are over 30 classes offered this summer.
