From the Principal
Welcome to the start of the 2018-2019 school year. Administration, administrative assistants, kitchen and custodial staff, as well as paraeducators and teachers, are excited to get students back in building and gear up for another year filled with educational opportunities both in and out of the classroom.
This is the first installment of the CHS News You Can Use for this school year. Each month, we will email out a newsletter as well as include it on our website. We feel that it is a great way to highlight some of the wonderful things that our students and staff do each and every day as well as let parents and guardians know about important upcoming events. Communication is key as the school and community work together for student success. Please feel free to contact me if you ever have questions or comments or would like more information in general.
Clinton High School, as always, will continue to learn and move forward to meet student needs. This year there a couple of changes that will impact students greatly.
The freshman only day on September 4th (11:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) is one way that we are focusing on building relationships and supporting our students' needs.
The modified block is another great example. The modified block schedule allows students and teachers the time needed to really dig into the subject matter and increase the depth of understanding while maintaining the integrity of full-school year instruction.
Power Hour time slots (one on Wednesday and two on Thursday) provide opportunities for students to receive assistance, complete missing work and/or work on extension projects with individual staff members. We appreciate the fact that many of our students work and/or are involved in co-curricular activities. Working time into the school day for student support and assistance is important to us.
Even as we continue to learn and grow, our focus on providing enriching educational experiences for our students remains constant. Whether it is classroom instruction, a field trip or a work-based learning opportunity-our goal is that our students and staff are growing and learning continuously.

Bell Schedule
CHS will be under a different bell schedule for the 2018-2019 school year. This schedule is frequently referred to as a Modified Block. (click the link below to see the schedule)
Monday, Tuesday and Friday will be 8 periods long and each class will be 46 minutes long.
Wednesdays and Thursdays are what are called “block” days. On those days students will have 4 classes and each class will be 83 minutes long.
Also on Wednesday and Thursdays there will be scheduled Advisory & Power Hour time.
Wednesday--Students will meet with their assigned advisor and have an opportunity to utilize one period of Power Hour.
Thursday--Students will have two opportunities to utilize Power Hour so that will allow you to meet with different departments and/or staff.
Note: It is important for students to remember that if they miss a Wednesday or Thursday Block Day, that it’s like missing two days of class so we recommend scheduling appointments on Monday, Wednesday, Friday if possible.

What is Advisory?
Each student is assigned an advisor. Each Advisory section has a small number of students from that grade level and will meet every Wednesday. The topics discussed will cover a variety of topics related to academics, careers, PBIS, school and/or grade specific activities, etc.
Advisors are listed in student Skyward accounts on the main profile page as well as on student schedules.
What is Power Hour ?
Power Hour is time for students to meet with staff to review material or strategies that support classroom instruction, or reteach material. Students can ask last minute questions before a summative, work on an advanced project, practice applicable skills, complete a test retake, etc.

Wednesday, September 5th there will be NO Power Hour. Instead, students will meet in the gym to learn more about Power Hour and be able to ask questions.
