Message From Mrs. El-Amin & Ms. Riddle
Hello TLA Families!
We are so excited to jump start the 2023 calendar year with such an amazing group of scholars, collaborative families, and dedicated educators. This week we all enjoyed reconnecting and reestablishing routines and procedures. As always we look forward to another week of learning.
We wanted to share a few quick reminders with all of you:
- Surveys were sent to all families on January 4th. Make sure you fill out the survey, linked below. It only takes a few minutes and your responses are greatly appreciated and your input is valued!
- Re-enrollment is open for current scholars. We want ALL of your scholars to come back next year so please make sure you re-enroll. Re-enroll on-line during the month of January in order to keep your scholar's seat for the 2023-24 school year.
- New scholar enrollment runs from Feb.1st to Feb. 28th to secure a spot in the lottery. Remember, if you have friends or family that you want to join us at TLA they will need to apply on-line during February.
- No School for scholars this upcoming Friday.
- Dress Down Day Thursday, January 12th - details below
Now let's go be great.
Tavi Riddle - Principal, K4-5th
Priscilla El-Amin - Principal, 6th - 12th

Mr. Cieplewski's Message
WELCOME BACK TLA FAMILIES! What a great week it has been! We loved seeing our scholars' smiling faces and are excited to be back at school. The scholars jumped right back into action and continue to demonstrate what it means to be a TLA Lion! ROAR!
Just a couple house keeping notes, please make sure your scholars are in TLA uniforms. We saw scholars with the wrong colored socks, pants style and either no belt or belts that were not solid black.
Also remember to have your scholar charge their Chromebook when they are at home. An uncharged Chromebook is an untapped tool. Let's support our scholars in being responsible and arriving to school each day dressed and prepared for class.
Mr. Anderson's Message
Happy new year to all of our TLA families. Our virtue this month is RESPONSIBILITY. A big part of responsibility is making sure our scholars are at school and ready to learn. When children are absent from school, they miss out on consistent instruction that is needed to develop basic skills. Children in early grades are particularly susceptible to falling behind in fundamental reading skills, which can have a snowball effect that impacts future learning. As a family we are all responsible for the success of our scholars so let's do what it takes to make sure our scholars are at school at least 95% of the time.
Quick reminder POKE-MON cards are not allowed at school. Please make sure your scholar leaves them at home. Thank you and GOOOO LIONS….. ROAR!!!!
Attendance Goal
We are at the point in the year where winter weather is in full-effect as well as the seasonal illnesses that go along with it. Any absences, even if they are excused, break the routine of daily attendance that keeps scholars feeling connected and engaged in learning. EVERY DAY COUNTS! Let’s continue to work together to reach our school-wide goal of 95% attendance. We are so close, and I know that we can do it!
YTD% - 93% (93.24%)

Arts and Communication Career Focus
We are kicking off the new year with focusing on Arts and Communication Careers this month. This week 6-10th grade scholars interested in careers that fall within this cluster participated in a career panel at TLA. Scholars learned about art, film making, acting, and broadcasting careers. They had the opportunity to ask the participants about their career successes and how to prepare for the future. Information about the Beloit International Film Festival was shared with scholars. More information regarding the Scholar Filmmaker Showcase will be coming soon.
Hydroponics
Scholars have been busy learning how to grow lettuce and herbs in the Fork Farm. Before break scholars harvested cilantro. Scholars were tasked with taking the herb home to cook with it. Scholars cooked tacos and guacamole. After each harvest the scholars spend time taking apart and cleaning the farm to prepare for transplanting the next seeds.
