Principal's Message
December 15, 2017
Dear Willink Families,
It's hard to believe that our December break is a week away! These four weeks always seem to fly right by. And, it is finally starting to look and feel like December too. The lights and decorations that adorn so many houses always look a bit better with some snow on the ground.
On Thursday and Friday, students can wear their Santa hats, reindeer antlers, and other holiday headgear. These days are always fun. We will be posting pictures on our Twitter feed and on our webpage. Be sure to check them out.
Every year, WCSD must conduct an early release drill. This year's drill will be on Friday, December 22nd. Willink will dismiss at 2:25 pm which is 15 minutes early. A email will be sent out with complete details to all families. The basic rule of thumb though is that each building will let out 15 minutes early.
Have a great weekend!
Jim

TIES (Together Including Every Student) is a program which promotes the participation of children/young adults with developmental disabilities in extracurricular and community activities by providing effective support. This support is provided by trained student volunteers in grades 8-12 in the Webster Central School District.
Participants and volunteers join a wide variety of activities, such as trips through Webster Parks and Recreation, arts and crafts classes, sports programs, swimming, after-school activities, drumming circles, school of religion, etc. Volunteers attend a 45 minute training session at their school. The time commitment is based on the volunteer’s schedule.
If you are interested in volunteering or have questions about TIES, please contact Carolyn Maciag, tmaciag@rochester.rr.com / (315) 317-6377.
Webster Health and Education Network
Naloxone is a prescription medicine that reverses an overdose and blocks the effects of opioids. When a person is overdosing on an opioid, they can experience over-sedation, breathing can slow down or stop, causing their heart to stop beating. Naloxone temporarily counteracts these life-threatening effects. The latest version of the overdose prevention kits contain a form of naloxone that can be sprayed into a person’s nose. There are no serious side effects, although the patient might experience opioid withdrawal symptoms upon waking. The American Medical Association and others have endorsed community-based, educational programs that distribute naloxone.
You will leave this 1-hour class with an overdose reversal kit, and the training necessary to save the life of a suspected opioid/heroin overdose patient using a nasal spray. All adult community members are welcome, especially those with broad community reach: coaches, parents, teachers, medical professionals, clergy, counselors, and anyone wishing to be of service to their neighbors.
WHEN is coupling this effort with the distribution of local treatment information, in hopes that those revived will seek the necessary help to recover their lives.
