Spirit Week!

Mrs. Kratky and Mrs. Schmitz ask 6th graders to “Live Above the Line” and this includes giving back to the community. Each year 6th graders select a cause to support. This year 6th graders chose to support the Nebraska Humane Society. During the week of December 5 - December 9 students may participate in a spirit week for $1.00 a day. See the below flyer for theme days for the week!

Thank you for your support,

Oakdale 6th Graders

Lunch Accounts

We are seeing many lunch accounts dipping below a zero balance. When this happens, you receive an email from lunchaccounts@westside66.net as well as a paper letter sent home with your student. Please send money to school to take care of this negative balance as soon as you can. Students with a negative balance will no longer be able to order extra items at breakfast or lunch.

An easy way to take care of this problem is to set up a lunch account at MySchoolBucks.com. By registering on this website, you can have money automatically deposited into your child's lunch account whenever it goes below a certain amount. You can also monitor if your child is ordering extra items on a consistent basis. If you need your student's ID number, please contact Mrs Rhyner.

You can also complete an application for Free or Reduced Lunch through the federal government. This application is linked below. If you qualify, or have qualified in the past, you will need to complete this application every year.

Hour of Code

This year's Hour of Code takes place during Computer Science Education Week, December 5-11, in recognition of the birthday (December 9, 1906) of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper. Participating in the Hour of Code is a great way to introduce your family to computer science. Computer science is a part of nearly every industry including healthcare, ecology, engineering, and the arts. Plus, children love learning it! By starting with just one Hour of Code, you could spark a new interest in your child that leads to a lifelong passion. Get started today!

You don’t need experience in Computer Science or teaching to get your children learning and laughing. You can try the Hour of Code with a computer, a tablet, a smartphone, or completely unplugged! Join millions of students and teachers in over 180 countries starting with an Hour of Code!

  1. Start by planning your Hour of Code family night with this “How to” guide.

  2. Download a printable Hour of Code Unplugged Activity Packet for ages 4-18 so that students using limited technology at home can still participate. Plus, there are new unplugged activity options from our partners at Google, Kodable, iRobot, and more.

  3. Then let your child start exploring activities!

  4. Work with your child to build problem solving skills and computational thinking as they work through their activities.

  5. Have fun!

Monthly High 5 Drawing

Congratulations to Ella L. (2nd Grade Miss Houston) and Anna C. (3rd Grade Mrs. Brady) for being randomly selected in this month's high 5 drawing. They get to record an announcement that will be sent out to all Oakdale families when we have our first snow day!

For the December drawing, each student chosen will be able to pick if they want to sit in the Relaxation Chair from Mrs. McPadden's office or Mr. Jagels' office chair. Keep showing respectful, responsible, safe, and kind behavior to earn those high 5's!

Turkey Trot Celebration

Today, the winners of the Turkey Trot, the Turkey Mascots, and a few friends were able to celebrate with a special lunch in the conference room. They were treated to a fancy tablecloth, decorations, a cozy fire on the big screen, and lunchtime music.

Emotional Well Being

If your child is experiencing particular difficulties (whether related to the pandemic or other life circumstances) and you would like to explore options for additional support we encourage you to contact our School Psychologist, Mrs. McPadden (mcpadden.mary@westside66.net) who can help in coordinating additional support and resources.
