Act of Proclamation
What is it?
- issued October 7, 1763 by King George III
- happened after the end of the French and Indian War/Seven Years' War
- it forbade all settlers from settling past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains
- it was made to organize Great Britain's new North American empire and to stabilize relations with Native North Americans through regulation of trade, settlement, and land purchases
Response of the Colonists
- They felt that it was unfair for them not to be able to go where they wanted because they had fought in the war and deserved to go where they wanted.
