Sponsorship of books for Prize Giving
We are currently looking for a couple of businesses who may be interested in sponsoring the books that we hand out to the recipients of the different class awards during prize giving. If you are interested and in a position to sponsor then please make contact with the school office to express an interest - either 2258320 or office@otautau.school.nz.
Levels of Disrespect
Currently, at school our staff and students are experiencing a small group of students who are continually displaying a level of entitlement that have them thinking they can say and act how ever they want to at school. Examples are including, disobedience and talking rudely to staff and other students. I have brought this to the attention of the board of trustees at last nights meeting and I have met with the staff about it this morning; The plan moving forward with any child who displays this level of entitlement is:
- Parents will be contacted immediately and the student will be collected from school and taken home for the remainder of the day.
- If this pattern continues to occur with this child, then the child will be stood down from school and/or a meeting with the board of trustees may occur (depending on the severity of the incident).
- Other interventions may occur such as suspension meetings if this level of behaviour continues with that child.
I'm sure you will agree this level of behaviour is not tolerated in any school or workplace environment.

Here are some more of our Room 6 Maker space creations from this term. Alexis Nagelkerken’s Owl house, Dayne Fox’s gun, Jax Sycamore’s sword, Kaia West’s squirrel, Taree Drake’s Christmas characters and Leonardo Hollis’s reindeer.
Technology Challenges
Last Friday we entered four teams in the Technology Challenge held at Waianiwa School. Thank you to those parents who were able to assist by transporting children to Waianiwa and those who were able to manage a team at the event. To enter these teams it was stipulated that we had to supply a parent for each team of four, we really appreciate the parents who supported us to ensure we could make this happen for the children.
The Year 8 team of Macie Rutherford, Larissa Cameron, Kariana Caughey and Landon Evans came second in the event, all other teams enjoyed the challenge this event offered.
Western Athletics
Thanks to all the parents who supported the children at Western Athletics last Friday at Takitimu School. Special thanks to those who went out of their way to help at the event and to assist our children to be in the right place at the right time. All children behaved wonderfully and tried their very best at all of the events. Listed below are the children who have gained entry to the Southland Athletics Championship to be held on 19th November at Surrey Park in Invercargill:
Western Golf
On Tuesday three teams entered the Western Golf Tournament held at Riverton Golf Course. Thanks to Paula Stewart, Anton Egan & Nicky McFadzien for spending the day with our budding young golfers. We are awaiting confirmation to see if any teams made it through to the Southland Golf Tournament which will be held at Drummond.
Touch
Our first Touch Games got underway last Monday. Thank you to the parents and senior children who are assisting with looking after the teams. Please make sure your child has a red school top for this event. Caps are not to be worn on the field. Most teams have a small number of subs, so some children may get to play more than one game on competition days.
