Principal's Corner
Dear Lake Forest Community High School,
I’d like to start by commending our talented students, musical directors, and staff in Big Fish. I attended the dress rehearsal, and I was absolutely blown away. There are two more chances to attend, tonight and tomorrow, and I encourage everyone in our community to come and see this show! It is a testament to the strength and love among family and friends, and it is a reminder of what is really and truly important in life.
We have many students who will be taking AP tests over the next two weeks which proves to be a stressful time of year. Scouts, be patient with yourself, get some sleep, try to eat healthy foods, and just do your best. You are prepared, and you got this!
Prom is next weekend, and this year marks the return to our traditional prom at Lake Forest High School. It takes a lot of parents and staff to make this such a special event, and I would be remiss if I didn’t send a heartfelt thank you out for the community to see on behalf of LFHS. We are so lucky to live in a place where so many step up to make events like these so special.
Finally, as a reminder, the Fanscout doesn’t end with my message–there is a lot more to celebrate and see below–and remember, if you have something to share, we are always thrilled to include it in a Fanscout!
Go Scouts!
Erin

Life in Five Senses: How Exploring the Senses Got Me Out of My Head and Into the World
Featuring Gretchen Rubin, Five-time New York Times bestselling author and host of the Happier with Gretchen Rubin podcast; and Olga Khazan, Staff writer for The Atlantic and author of the 2020 book Weird: The Power of Being an Outsider in an Insider World.
Tuesday, May 2, 2023, 7:00 PM (on Zoom)
Register: www.bit.ly/RubinFANWebinar
For more than a decade, Gretchen Rubin had been studying happiness and human nature. She has written about these topics in her five New York Times bestsellers and talks about them on her wildly popular award-winning podcast with sister Elizabeth Craft, Happier with Gretchen Rubin. However, a visit to her eye doctor made her realize that she’d been overlooking a key element of happiness: her five senses. This epiphany lifted her from a state of foggy preoccupation into a world rediscovered by seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching.
In her latest book, Life in Five Senses: How Exploring the Senses Got Me Out of My Head and Into the World, a revelatory journey of self-experimentation, Rubin explores the mysteries and joys of the five senses as a path to a happier, more mindful life. Drawing on cutting-edge science, philosophy, literature, and her own efforts to practice what she learns, she investigates the profound power of tuning in to the physical world. From the simple pleasures of appreciating the magic of ketchup and adding favorite songs to a playlist, to more adventurous efforts like creating a daily ritual of visiting the Met and trying ayahuasca, Rubin shows us how to experience each day with depth, delight, and connection. The book is an absorbing, layered story of discovery filled with thoughtful insights and hands-on suggestions about how to heighten our senses and use our powers of perception to live fuller, richer lives—and, ultimately, how to move through the world with more vitality and love.

SCOUTS NICE TO KNOW
Spring Musical - Catch “Big Fish” at LFHS
The Lake Forest Theater Department would like to invite everyone to come see this heartwarming, fantastical and magical story.
Big Fish is a father-son story that highlights the complicated relationships in families. When Edward Bloom (Tom Foley) becomes ill, his son and expectant father himself, Will (Jack Taylor) returns home to try to understand the truth behind his father's life. As we travel back and forward in time, we wonder about Edward's fantastical adventures as he encounters mermaids, giants, werewolves and more. Will also wrestles with the memories of his youth and the absence of his traveling salesman father. As we connect to the humanity of the family's struggles, we also wonder about the truth behind Edwards' fantastical stories.
