SGE Spotlight: Music
In addition to their other music class studies, our music classes have been preparing songs to sing for our Veterans Day celebration. Our Kindergarten classes are singing an original tribute song titled, “Thank You, Veterans”. This song was written for our youngest Stonegate music students. It utilizes a 5-note scale in a key that fits their voices. Kindergarten music students are excited about their first Veterans Day performance. Kindergarten music students are also enjoying singing and movement games. Our first graders are preparing the first verse of “My Country ‘tis of Thee”. In addition to their singing, first-grade music students are learning to read music and to play what they are reading on the xylophone. Our second-grade music students are also exploring music literacy by playing xylophones by studying pages of written music. Second graders have prepared, “America the Beautiful” for our Veterans Day celebration. Our third-grade students are well into their study of recorder playing. Many third-grade music students are utilizing the Canvas app to study music and to communicate at a distance. This facilitates extra one-to-one time with Mr. Budd. For Veterans Day, our third graders have prepared, “God Bless America”. Our fourth graders are working on their first three chords on the ukulele. The addition of ukuleles has generated a great deal of excitement in our school. For Veterans Day, our fourth-grade students are looking forward to presenting, “You’re a Grand Old Flag”.
*SAVE THE DATE* FOR OUR VETERANS DAY PROGRAM!
The Stonegate students and staff look forward to celebrating our American heroes on Monday, November 11th, 2019, Our program will begin promptly at 9:30 AM in our SGE Gymnasium. (Please enter door 10.) As our honored Veterans arrive, students and staff will give you the option to be escorted to a special room for light treats and drinks. We hope you will be able to join us!

ZCS BYOD Computer Purchase Option
This time of year, the ZCS Technology Department is asked quite often, “what kind of computer should I get my student for the Bring Your Own Device 1:1 program in grades 5th-12th?” Normally we just give the minimum specs for the computers but this year we have worked with Lenovo to provide our families with an option to purchase the same device that ZCS uses for the rental program. It will be at the same discounted price ZCS pays ($506), tax free, and shipped to your door with free shipping in 2-3 weeks. If you wish to purchase instead of rent the device we selected as a technology team for its ruggedness and performance, just follow the link below and create an account with Lenovo.
https://www3.lenovo.com/le/1213352583/us/en/1213521421/login
After creating your account, we will approve you as a ZCS resident and you will receive an email from Customer Registration at ecomm.accounts@lenovo.com. After being approved, simply log in, select products, then “laptops and ultrabooks” in the upper left corner to select the only option, the Lenovo ThinkPad 11e 5th Gen. For a full explanation of the process and detailed instructions for ordering, please visit https://www.zcs.k12.in.us/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1655035&type=d&pREC_ID=1801359.

Global Games: Family Wellness/STEM Night
This year Stonegate is hosting a combined Family Wellness/STEM Night. Our theme is Global Games. We are looking for some kid-friendly games we could introduce to our families during this family fun night. If you have a game that represents your home culture that you believe our families would enjoy, please email Mrs. Torrance (dtorrance@zcs.k12.in.us) or Mrs. Skura (jenskura@zcs.k12.in.us). Please include the name of the game, a description of the how the game is played, and the supplies needed. More information about this night will be forthcoming. For now, mark your calendars for February 13 from 6-7:30! Thank you!
Next Week are Conferences and Student EDay!
E-Day Childcare
Dear parents/guardians:
We are looking forward to our upcoming elementary conferences and spending time with you to focus on your child’s goals and educational journey here in ZCS. While conferences are taking place on November 14th, students are offsite spending the day doing their coursework at home, a friend or relative’s house, or a variety of other locations parents have chosen. Some students will also be participating in conferences with their parents as communicated by the classroom teachers. For parents who may be experiencing some difficulty in making arrangements for their child to participate in E-Day away from school as designed during the conferences, each school will have some availability for child care. In order to take advantage of the opportunity, you must register by Monday, November 11th.
Hours of operation:
8:00 am – 2:30 pm on Thursday, November 14th
*Transportation is to be provided by the family. Drop-off/pick-up logistics will be communicated by GROW to participating families in the days leading up to Elementary E-day.
*Students will need to bring a sack lunch.
*Please note that since E-Day homework is not due for one week, access to the computer lab/machines at each school site will be limited. Please contact your child’s teacher for additional access time if your family has needs for a device or does not have access to WiFi at home.
