Causes of the American Revolution

1763-1776

Navigation Acts

In 1650 the parliament competed against the Dutch, and made the Navigation Acts. This act put mercantilism to the test. Trade with the colonies was only confined to use the British ships. Also trade had to go to England first going to any other countries. They did this to save money and control trade (Britain).

The Proclamation of 1763 was issued after the French and Indian War, and after the Pontiac's Rebellion. King George the third issued the proclamation, and let the Indians have rights to the land. Also it did not allow the colonists settle in the territory they had fought for, this made the colonists mad because they wanted to move away from the British soldiers living with them ( also economical reasons). They area they fought for mainly was the Ohio River valley. Many colonists were unhappy with the British taking control of them.

The Stamp Act

The stamp Act was a act issued by the Parliament to tax anything that is printed on paper that you can buy. The Parliament did this to pay off the debt of the French and Indian war. A man named Samuel Adams began the Committees of Correspondence, this was to contact other towns about the taxes taking place and how to fight them. Many people boycotted to rebel against the taxes. Others, such as the Sons of Liberty, used violence to fight against the taxes. In 1765 a congress from the nine colonies met in New York to discuss the Stamp Act. They sent a request to the king, and in a result the king repealed the act after the idea of the colonies having a revolution against Britain.

American Revolution

The american revelation was the revolution of the colonies against Britain. The revolution was caused by unfair taxes and Acts. Some of the social causes of the american resolution war were, over time the american born people did not feel much allegiance to the king/ country. Some of the economic reasons that the american resolution was caused was, various taxation were passed to support and pay off the debt Britain needed. This was one of the main reasons they had a resolution. I think the colonists were justified in declaring independence from Britain, because the colonists wanted to get away from Britain, get a new life, and start a new again. They wanted to be independent and free from taxation.
