Mr. Kardon's Space Exploration Club Launches Weather Balloon on Monday, May 22, 2017

Mr. Kardon said they launched the weather balloon which traveled 67 miles from Tyringham to Gardner, Massachusetts. It reached an altitude of 75,000 feet before parachuting down. Kardon said the payload worked perfectly - it transmitted its location and scientific telemetry throughout the flight.

The payload landed in Gardner, MA. Since the tracking doesn't work below a certain altitude, we ended up with a search area about a quarter mile on a side. They looked for a while, but they ran out of light and had to head home without the payload.

They studied the telemetry more carefully, and narrowed down the search area a little more, so Mr. Kardon drove out to Gardner, and he found it!! Unfortunately, it landed on the roof of a warehouse, so he will have to call the company that owns the warehouse and ask them to help me get it from the roof. Once they recover the payload, they will get the onboard video of the flight.

Students: Vecenya Zayas, Kasey Zaleski, Tyrone Nganga, John Leonard, Claude Noailles, Michael Peterson, Brendan Krumins, Michael Panico, Brandon Scott, Oscar Perez, Nicholas Cardillo, Cassandra Blakely, Matt Goldstein, Maddy Trowbridge, Bryan Healey, Sarcenas Jean-Philippe and Hannah Shea.

Special thanks to Mr. Kardon, Physics Teacher, Ms. Hedges, Science Lead Teacher and Dr. Meyers, Lead Engineering Teacher for chaperoning.

From the Desk of Mr. Welch, Criminal Justice Program

The Criminal Justice Program at Blue Hills Regional visited the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office, Public Safety Complex (Braintree). Both (9th and 10th grade) had a chance to participate this year with specially-trained instructors (Matt Lowe, Tony) which is centered on the aerial ropes course.

Students learn how to use the course to teach teamwork and build confidence among the students. These students met challenges and accomplished feats they never thought were possible, like ascending the 30 foot high rope climbing towers. The camp emphasizes good decision making skills while working with peers to solve problems.
