The Braves Quarterly
Sacaton Elementary School District #18-Quarter 1-August 2020
Welcome Back Braves-A Message from the Superintendent
Dear Sacaton Families,
SESD has launched the groundwork of utilizing Synergy’s portal for Online Registration. This will also include Student Enrollment Verification for students that attended last school year and are returning in August. This online process will support families in completing and submitting their paperwork from their home. Families will access the Student Enrollment Verification process through the ParentVUE portal. This online portal allows parents to access near real-time grades, attendance, and other data about their children at the click of a button! The district is excited about this opportunity as it will support Excellence in Student Learning and Excellence in Community Relations – especially during online learning!
Prioritizing safety and quality instruction, our Return to School Plan adheres to the CDC guidelines, ADE recommendations, and Executive Orders in alignment with our Strategic Plan. Students will return to school on August 10, using an online format. Input gathered from stakeholders (staff, students, and families) contributed to the planning document. This plan is flexible to respond to changing health conditions. This is a living document that will continue to be updated based on current information (Health and Safety).
Students will begin online learning on August 10. When In-Person learning is permissible, SESD will offer two instructional models for the entire school year that prioritizes quality learning experiences for all students: Online Learning and In-Person Learning (outlined in the Teaching and Learning Framework). Technology devices are available to all SESD registered students. To schedule an appointment to check out an iPad (preschool, kindergarten), or Chromebook (first grade through eighth grade), please contact your child's school at 520-562-8600.
Families need to provide updated registration information to SESD as soon as possible. This information is used to determine the necessary staffing, class placement, and aligns our resources to meet the needs of students. We look forward to seeing our Sacaton Braves online while providing quality learning opportunities beginning on August 10, 2020.
Sincerely,
Dr. Cherryl Paul
Superintendent

Wellness Tortoise Habitat
Legacy Orchard Today
Legacy Orchard-1999
Legacy Community Orchard/Wellness Desert Habitat Update
Gardening is about planting seeds of hope for tomorrow. What a beautiful analogy for the wonderful work our dedicated teachers do when inspiring learning in our students! During our hot summer months it may appear that this growth is on hold but much has happened in preparation for the fall and in preparation for the return of students. In the Legacy Orchard we have fresh lemons in abundance. The Wellness Tortoise Habitat was the focus of significant work over the summer as well. A new irrigation system has been installed and that will support the fauna that is needed to support the tortoises once they arrive. A wall has been constructed in the habitat and construction has started on a second wall.
New Faces in Sacaton-Ms. Lisa Pauli-Lake
SESD is proud to introduce Lisa Pauli-Lake, our new Director of Transportation. She has been in the Student Transportation industry for eight years. Her career started as a part-time bus driver and her love for training and teaching took her to the next level, as she quickly moved into the training department for one of the five largest school districts in Arizona. According to Ms. Pauli-Lake, “A bus driver is an extremely important part of a student’s day. They are the first person they see in the morning and the last one to send them off in the evening. Our positive energy can be what helps carry them through their day."
New Faces in Sacaton-Mrs. Cindy Lewis
Mrs. Lewis is honored to take the helm of Sacaton Middle School beginning July 1, 2020. She is a passionate and dedicated leader who is ready to lead our staff forward in moving our students to the next level. Mrs. Lewis has 18 years’ experience in K-12 education. She began her career as a high school teacher, moved into administration as a middle school assistant principal, and spent 7 years as Principal of a K-6 elementary school. Mrs. Lewis is passionate about learning and supporting students throughout their academic careers. She is a strong advocate of partnerships between home and school and is guided each day through her belief that all children can learn.
Programs to be Proud of-Sacaton's District Band
Sacaton's music program introduces students to music in PreK-4th grade with learning to read music, singing and playing instruments. Our band program started back up in 2016. Band is offered starting in 4th grade, to students interested in learning to play an instrument. The students are expected to commit for at least a semester so that they understand it takes time to learn to play music on the instrument they have chosen. The students keep practice logs and can earn incentives for filling them out and getting them signed and brought back. We are also proud of our Sacaton Marching Braves who have participated in various parades such as the River of Lights, Casa Grande Electric Light Parade and Mul-Cha-Tha. Concert band is for all band students. The students perform at the Christmas and Spring Concerts and at other performances such as awards ceremonies, community events and pep rallies to support school sports. In both 2018 and 2020 the bands went to a concert festival called Pageant of the Bands. Sacaton earned a bronze rating both years. If you are a 4-8 grade student and are interested in band, contact Mrs. Kennedy at kkennedy@sacatonschools.org or 520-562-8600 ext. 2015.
Contact us
During remote learning, we realize that it is more important than ever to have easy access to communication with our teachers and staff. All SESD teachers have established office hours so that they can be reached by phone or email when they are not teaching virtually. The directories below include teacher phone numbers, e-mail addresses and Google classroom links.
SESD Connectivity Survey
In support of providing a guaranteed and viable curriculum in every classroom during distance learning, please complete one survey response per student to support awareness of internet connectivity. This survey will close on August 19.
