Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family News | 11 April 2021
Peace be with you!
Jesus came and stood in their midst
and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,
“Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,
and whose sins you retain are retained.”
Dear St. Clare School Families,
Happy Easter! How lucky are we to celebrate this season for 50 days and end up with a birthday celebration at the end? This year, Pentecost, the birthday of our Church is on May 23rd. In the next few weeks, we will recount the stories of the Apostles after Jesus’ Resurrection, that they continued the work of His mission and rose out of their own fears to become spreaders of Jesus’ message of love. It is my favorite season of the liturgical year as we hear stories of transformation and “the Acts” of becoming witnesses.
"Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."
I would like to congratulate the Class of 2021 and their religion teacher, Miss Irene Kim for giving us a prayerful and reflective experience in their Presentation of the Lord’s Passion through the Stations of the Cross. Their creativity and insightful reflections provided us with a deep and meaningful preparation for the Triduum. We hope and pray that what they have reflected upon will take root in their hearts and bring about lasting transformation. Thank you for the gift you’ve given the St. Clare community!
SUPPORT OUR 30TH ANNUAL JOG-A-THON!
I hope you were able to talk up your family and friends over Easter break so that they can support our Jog-a-Thon. If not, please take this opportunity to share your student’s 99pledges page with family and friends and your social media network. We are 67% of goal and we can’t stop! https://app.99pledges.com/fund/scs30thjat Adding iPad Gen8s to our device pool will allow the younger grades to shift into 1:1 instead of the current 1:2 configuration. How awesome would that be?
Join us on Wellness Wednesday Assemblies to learn more and to get everyone excited about being part of providing an amazing learning environment for our precious children!
Jog-a-Thon begins April 18 and ends April 24!
PARENT VOLUNTEER HOURS AND SERVICE LEARNING HOURS
Stay tuned for more opportunities to come and volunteer in-person. We are looking at opening up our Lego Robotics program after school and our Math Club for in-person meetings. In addition, we will likely start up our Saturday Work Days soon. More importantly, as we welcome more students on campus (75% of our population will be back), we need more eyes on the blacktop at lunch for yard duty. Please let Ms. Teresa know that you are able to help. Thank you! Your response to these requests do not go unnoticed. We appreciate your partnership and your commitment to enriching our community. Modeling how it is to serve is a valuable lesson for our students.
TRAVEL GUIDANCE
As more and more people are vaccinated and more businesses open up, the desire to be out and about has increased. However, we want to remind everyone that we are still in the midst of a pandemic.
The guidance remains that non-essential travel should be avoided. At St. Clare, when families do travel, we ask everyone to continue to follow protocols as we practice them at school: to keep face coverings on, to limit gathering with non-households to outdoors and keep safely distanced when masks are not worn.
We appreciate our families who let us know that they will be traveling. Some families choose to self-quarantine and/or take a COVID test upon their return. We continue to ask that families, especially those who leave the state boundaries or who travel to counties designated in a more restrictive tier (we are currently in the Orange Tier) to self-quarantine for 10 days. Families who travel within the state may get a COVID test after the 6th day of returning.
Please send test results only to Mrs. Rizzo (cherell.rizzo@dsj.org) or me (cecile.mantecon@dsj.org) and you will get a confirmation that you may return in-person as soon as 24 hours after you’ve submitted your negative COVID test results.
RETURNING TO IN-PERSON ON WEDNESDAYS
Starting April 19, we will return to being at school five days a week, except for our 8th graders, who will remain in their cohorts. Wednesdays will continue to be minimum days (12:30 dismissal) with CKZ available for those who are registered until 5:30 P.M. There will continue to be no Choice Lunch on Wednesdays, so if your child attends CKZ, please be sure to pack them a lunch.
Stay tuned for additional information this coming week.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENCOUNTER
Thank you to those who enriched our liturgical celebrations during the Triduum and Easter. It is heart-warming to see many of our families (and Ms. Ariel!) richly involved in the preparations.
We also thank the families who helped sort Jog-a-Thon t-shirts for distribution soon!
April 18-24 is Jog-a-Thon and Spirit Week. Stay tuned for information on theme days and activities to promote JAT, led by our Student Council.
Join me for “A Cup with the Principal” on Thursday, April 15. I am grateful to the loyal few who attend the live sessions. Understanding that it is difficult for all to attend, I appreciate the attention to the recordings to learn about updates. We will continue these sessions as long as there are people who desire them.
