Knightly Update October 22, 2023
ACP High School - Edition Vol 3 Issue 14
________________________________________
What a week! Homecoming 2023 has come and gone, but the memories will last forever. We had a fantastic week, and I can't say enough about our student body and the student leaders that we have on campus that worked to put on a wonderful homecoming. Please join me in thanking everyone who played a role in making this year's homecoming so special. Great job everyone. Very proud to be a Knight!
As a reminder, Tuesday is PSAT day. All students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will be taking the PSAT. Students who paid for the exam will get their results later this quarter, typically 4-6 weeks after administration of the exam (we anticipate scores being available on November 16, 2023). It is critical that students remember to charge and bring their district laptop to school on Tuesday as the exam will be administered electronically. Seniors will participate in a senior seminar while our underclassmen take the exam. Seniors also need to bring their laptops to school as a portion of the seminar will require laptops. The schedule for Tuesday is below. If you have any questions, please contact the office. I know our students will do their best on the exam and I wish them well. Good luck to the members of the Class of 2025 as this year's PSAT will determine which members of our junior class will qualify for National Merit Scholarship opportunities next fall Good luck, Knights!
I want to wish our badminton and flag football teams the best as they head off to state tournament play this week. Our badminton team will be working to repeat as state champions and our flag football team will be entering the playoffs in the inaugural year of AIA flag football. Good luck to all the ladies on our badminton and flag football teams in this year's tournament. In addition to our badminton and flag football teams, we have two students who will be participating in this year's State Golf Tournament. Best of luck to Lily Humbert and Jack Sikkila as they compete as individuals in this year's tournament. The tournament schedule for all of this season’s state playoff games and championship matches will be included in the "School Events" section of our Knightly Update. Good luck, and GO KNIGHTS!
Thanks again for helping to make this year's homecoming a fun and special event, and thank you for choosing to be a part of ACP. Have a great week.
Rob Bickes
Principal

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Graduates from the ACPHS Class of 2022 and 2023 were delighted to learn they secured a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on their Heat Stress and Heat Stroke monitoring device that alerts users of potential heat stress. They filed the application in 2020 under the direction of Mrs. Rachna Nath through her research class.
This group of students also received a Lemelson-MIT Excite award, HUE 2022 Climate Change Award and a total grant money of $62,000 throughout their 4 years of work with Mrs. Nath. These graduates are Sohani Sandhu ('22), Kaitlyn Lai ('22), Omina Nematova ('22), Abraham Troop ('22), Diya Nath ('23), Alexander Kroumov ('23), Daniel Wu ('23), Nealin Banerjee ('23) and Jacob Kaufman Warner ('23). They are now working on licensing their idea.
You can read more about them and their work at www.sensehydro.weebly.com.
Heartfelt congratulations to all of them. Keep breaking barriers Knights!!!
The PREP PTO is the official parent/teacher organization of ACP High. Our role is to help support the staff, students, and faculty of ACP. School funds only go so far. We work closely with the administration to help determine the needs and then fund those needs. We support back-to-school events, teacher requests, general requests from the administration, graduation, and so much more. We support the entire school!
We do minimal fundraising throughout the year, so to assist us with our events and school support, we ask families to consider making a Booster donation.
Our suggested Booster Donation is:
$60 per student
$90 per family (2 or more students attending ACPHS)
Donations over $150 will receive an ACP Spirit T-shirt by the end of August.
Any donations to The Prep PTO are greatly appreciated but are not required.
The PrepPTO is a member of the Chandler School Boosters 501c3 non-profit organization. Your donation may be tax-deductible. Please consult your tax professional for information/clarification.
Thank you for your support.
Please Make a Tax Credit Donation
If you are able to make your tax contributions early in the year, your donation would be greatly appreciated and give us a jump start on some of our essential extracurricular activities. We have set a goal to collect approximately $50.00 per family for a total of $57,500.00 and hope that you will be willing to help us meet our goal. Thank you for supporting your child and our school!
Tax Credit Basics…
A tax credit donation is a full refund, not a deduction. Contributions eligible for a tax credit are donated directly to schools, not to the state or school district. To participate or learn more, follow the link listed below to donate online or you can complete the enclosed form and submit your contribution at your convenience.
http://www.cusd80.com/taxcredit
Arizona Law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per year if filing status is “Married, filing Joint Return;” $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is “Single of Head of Household;” and $200 per calendar year if filing status is “Married filing separate returns.” These contributions fund extracurricular activities in public schools and greatly impact our school community and our students.
