Superintendent's Update
April 3, 2020
Dear Families:
As we finish up the third week of the school closure, I wanted to provide you with an update.
First, I would like to thank everyone (parents, teachers, administrators, instructional coordinators) for your patience and cooperation as we work through the process of providing educational opportunities and materials. During this transition, the goal is not to replicate a typical face-to-face student day. CCPS will provide guidelines for student access to online materials and will be flexible about when and how students complete the work, as to not cause additional stress to families in this difficult time. CCPS recognizes that the nature of this pandemic makes it an unrealistic expectation for students and teachers to complete their grade-level curriculum as if they were attending school every day. Rather, our goal is to provide the means for students to stay engaged in meaningful learning until students and staff can return to school, whenever that may be.
Next week, we will still observe the previously scheduled Spring Break closure (April 9-13). Students will not be expected to engage in school work during those days. We will use the remainder of that week to "make up" work from the initial weeks of content. This will provide everyone with an opportunity to regroup and catch up.
As an additional reminder, beginning Monday, meal distribution will only occur on Mondays and Wednesdays. We will still be serving the same amount of meals, but the distribution will be consolidated to two days as an additional safety measure to decrease the amount of time that people are gathering. On Monday, children will be given a breakfast and lunch for both Monday and Tuesday; on Wednesday, children will be given 3 breakfasts and 3 lunches for the remainder of the week. The times for the distribution will remain 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and will still occur at the same sites.
Meal sites:

Holly Hall Elementary

The Board of Education of Cecil County's meeting scheduled for April 8, 2020, has been postponed until Wednesday, April 22, 2020. The agenda will be available on BoardDocs. All are welcome to participate in this online meeting. The link to join the meeting will be provided the morning of April 22, 2020. A recording of the meeting will be uploaded after the meeting. If interested in addressing the Board, please see CCPS Policy BDD which includes parameters for Opportunities for Public Participation. Interest in public participation must be noted by sending an email to lorr@ccps.org prior to the meeting (deadline April 22 at 5:30 p.m.).
In closing, for those of you who were able to view Governor Hogan’s press conference earlier this week, he commended Cecil County Public Schools for our donation of medical supplies and PPE from our nurses’ offices and several of our programs at the School of Technology. These supplies were distributed for use by first responders and other medical professionals who are selflessly working on the front lines of this pandemic and we are glad that we were able to help. We are so very thankful for the work that they are doing.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.
