Shout Outs!
Grogesky, thank you for leading an IEP meeting for a colleague at the last minute. You are amazing!
Bohn, thank you for jumping right in to be principal designee. Your expertise and patience is truly appreciated.
Cofield, thank you for helping to tag team behavioral needs. We appreciate you!
Robsinson and Roth, thank you so much for organizing a successful Grandparents' Day! It was a wonderful turnout!
Gorham, you did an outstanding job organizing the VBRC Winter Warm Up at Lynnhaven last week. Also, thank you to all the teachers who came out for it! What a great opportunity for literacy PD!
Shout out to Mrs Linda Jones! Thank you for helping out a neighbor with copies, kind words, and looking after students!
Classroom Allocations 2019-2020
Pre-K - not allocated yet - Title I funds allocated later
Kindergarten - 2 (plus 2 more predicted through Title I to total 4)
1st Grade - 4
2nd Grade - 3
3rd Grade - 3
4th Grade - 3
5th Grade - 3
As you all can see, there will need to be shifts solely based on grade level allocations. Decisions about staffing will be communicated at a later date. If you plan on retiring or leaving LES, please let Mrs. Breaux know, as overall we did lose one allocation, and one teacher must shift to another school for 2019-2020. Thank you all for your patience during staffing season.
We're going on a treasure hunt...prek practicing their map reading skills.

Student Response Team (and Retentions)
Additionally, retention is an intervention (though research does not prove that it is a great intervention and should be used in rare cases). Any student being recommended for retention must have some formal intervention during the school year that has been documented through SRT, 504, or special education. As a reminder, students will have on their 3rd quarter report card the canned comment about retention if you suspect they are not meeting the grade level expectations for promotion. It is still too early to formally recommend retention. That will happen in May/June.
Upcoming Testing Windows for LES

Please enter all data into data spreadsheets as assessments are completed and before data discussions at collaboration.
Strategic Plan Survey
All Virginia Beach City Public Schools staff members will receive an email that will explain the survey and include a link. You are asked to complete the survey by March 8. The survey link will be available on vbschools.com so that parents and community members may access the survey. Parents will be notified of the survey through an AlertNow email message sent by the Office of Planning, Innovation and Accountability.
Career Teacher Application
The Career Teacher Application for 2019 will be available for downloading from the Intranet (Forms/Human Resources/Career Teacher Application) beginning in February.
Every teacher requesting consideration for a Career Teacher allowance needs to:
- Complete the Career Teacher Application 2019.
- Collect supporting documentation as directed by the building principal to verify actions in each of the four categories of the form. (Teachers keep all of the supporting documentation with a copy of the completed application for their records.)
- Request the signature of the building principal on the cover sheet between Feb. 1, 2019, and the last day of school, June 21, 2019.
- If applicable to the application, include a copy of the National Board Certification if not already on file in the Licensure Office.
All applications must be scanned by a designated school office member into LaserFiche using the LaserFiche Document Drop folder and the Career Teacher Application Template. Once the successful scanning of the application is complete, teachers should retain the original documents for their records. At Lynnhaven Elementary, please submit applications to Mrs. Breaux, and she will work with the office associates to get your application scanned into LaserFiche.
Applicants will be notified by email upon receipt of their application. Once the Career Teacher Application is reviewed and processed, the teacher will receive another email indicating approval or denial of the application. Those teachers with questions about the Career Teacher Application, or those who need assistance with the completion of the application, may contact John Ogden, Human Resources Specialist, in the Department of Human Resources at 263-1133 or John.Ogden@vbschools.com.
