Dr. Sims Sworn In as Superintendent
On Wednesday, June 22, Dr. Dan A. Sims was sworn in as the next Superintendent for the Bibb County School District. After taking the necessary oaths, an emotional Dr. Sims thanked his family as well as members of the Board of Education for their support.
"I believe this board and I are a perfect fit, just as they believe I am the fit for the District in this season," Dr. Sims said.
He also expressed gratitude for the leadership of outgoing Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones Jr. Dr. Sims will officially take office on July 1.

Community Meets, Greets New Superintendent
On June 21, community members and District staff gathered at Rutland High School to hear about the goals and plans incoming Superintendent Dr. Dan A. Sims has as he takes office on July 1. During a presentation in the school's fine arts center, Dr. Sims highlighted a student-centered approach to leadership.
"If you have some level of influence on what's happening in the life of a student, and you can get on the same page, and move with the same vision, and operate with the same purpose, something really great can happen with that child in the middle," Dr. Sims said.
After his presentation, Dr. Sims greeted parents, students and other stakeholders during a brief reception. This was an excellent chance for community members to connect with the incoming superintendent!
School Board Approves New District Leaders

Dr. Lovett has served as Assistant Superintendent of Student Services for the past 3 years in Atlanta Public Schools. In this role, she has provided strategic leadership and guidance for several key departments including Special Education, Student Intervention and Wrap-Around Supports, Comprehensive Health Services, Afterschool & Summer Programs, Student Discipline, Student Registration and Records.
Adams currently serves as the Bibb County School District’s Director of Research, Evaluation, Assessment and Accountability. He has served as the Interim Chief Information Officer for the past two months.
Render has held several leadership positions in public education beginning as Director of Bands and Assistant Principal at DeKalb County Schools, Assistant Principal and Implementation Specialist for 9-12 College and Career Readiness at Atlanta Public Schools, Principal at Clayton County Schools, and Chief of Secondary Schools and Associate Superintendent of High Schools at Madison Metropolitan School District in Wisconsin.
Foy, previously the District's Testing Coordinator, was elected treasurer for the Georgia Assessment and Accountability Professionals organization in 2020.

Rutland JROTC Part of Computing, Cybersecurity Program Launch
The District is excited to announce Rutland High School will become part of an elite national Marines JROTC cohort for 2022-23 to build computer science and cybersecurity education programs for students! Participating in this new cohort will prepare Rutland High School with the tools and connections to build AP Computer Science Principles and Cybersecurity programs for students (cadets) and the entire student body.
Students attending high schools that are part of the national Marines JROTC-CS CSforALL Cohort have access to cutting edge curriculum around Computer Science principles and cybersecurity, gain knowledge, skills and proficiencies in tech related fields, and potential opportunities to pursue future careers in computer science and/or cybersecurity!

District, Partners Host Resource Fair
On May 12, the District - in partnership with Central Georgia Technical College's Adult Education Division - held a Summer Resource Fair at St. Paul AME Church. This was an opportunity to learn about CGTC recruitment activities, different summer camps, community programs, and services geared toward students, ages 4 to 18 years old.
BCSD representatives were also present to provide information about their programs and services along with other community organizations. Additionally, families received school supplies, books, food and more!
