We accomplished alot in this short week. It flew by! They did a great job for the substitute. I was very proud of them. They also behaved like rock star geniuses when Mrs. Hayunga came in for my evaluation. I was so pleased with them! We have had some hard days with lots of chatting and talking through me, blurting out and not stopping their conversations when asked. So I want to celebrate when they get it right!
We were invited to go to our buddy classroom, Mrs. Paterson's room (Juan and Andrew's main class) on Friday afternoon. Capt Granberry of the Irving police department came and read to them. He also spoke about being a police officer, his uniform, supplies and his job. It was a great experience. My class kept asking him about tasers and wanted him to show it?? So funny. He did not, but how interesting that was what they wanted to know most.
I am looking forward to conferences this week. Please come to the front of the school. I will come and let you in as quickly as I can. I try hard to keep to the schedule, so please be patient. Thanks!
Our field trip is Wednesday! It should be a beautiful day. The kids will travel the Arboretum in small groups. They will need to carry a draw string style or small, light weight backpack. They will need to carry their own lunch, water bottle and snacks in their own backpack. The kids will go to the Children's Garden and to the pumpkin village. We will have a lesson on Life Cycles at 10:15. Here is the info on it:
"Your program will cover the following topics: seasonal change, different life cycles and the roles of pollination and decomposition. I will meet your class at the Gazebo near the gallery with a chalkboard sign with your school’s name and lesson times."
If you are meeting us there please feel free to join us for the lesson too.
Thank you and have a great week!

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
LANGUAGE ARTS-We learned about synonyms and learned what a thesaraus is. The kids learned about shades of meaning and how using a stronger word can create more emphasis for your reader. We also read the story Crankenstein. We talked about the sequence of a story. We continued to infer and use our comprehension strategies. We also learned about quotation marks. We wrote about what makes us cranky and many kids incorporated quotation marks into their writing.
