The Cavalier Contact
April 19, 2020 - Volume 1 - Issue 30
A Message from Mr. Just
Cavalier Nation,
I hope everyone is healthy and that you were able to enjoy the great weather this Sunday. The picture of our baseball field shows how our coaches at CHS are still working hard at improving facilities for students as play is suspended. We continued with Phase II of our Continuity of Instruction Plan this past week. Phase II provides activities for students through Friday of this week. Here are some important highlights you will need to make note of for this week:
Phase I/II Submission of Materials - Students will be able to submit their work from Phase I and II by taking a picture of their work and emailing it to their teacher, sharing their work through google, or dropping it off at CHS on April 22nd or April 24th.
Forgot Phase I/II? - You are still able to access Phase I/II assignments at the COI link or you can ask for the materials at the curbside drop off/pick up on April 22nd and April 24th.
Tier I/II Students- Please read the 29th issue of the Cavalier Contact by clicking here to see the complete expectations of Tier 1 and Tier 2 students.
Phase III -- The next phase of instruction for Cavaliers starts on April 27th. Teachers, Counselors, and Administrators reached out to families last week to update all students on their status as Tier 1 or Tier 2. If you were not contacted, then please reach out to your counselor, administrator, or to Mr. Just.
Tier 1 students will be able to access the Virtual Modules of new instruction through Schoology. Tier 1 students can use any CCPS school parking lot to access wifi to download the virtual modules to their chromebook. The virtual modules will be available on April 22nd. Tier 1 students can send at least two Phase I and two Phase II assignments using the methods outlined above.
Tier 2 students must complete and submit two assignments from Phase I and two assignments from Phase II. Tier 2 students must also pick up and complete the hardcopy of the Recovery Module or complete and submit the assignments for the Virtual Module for the class, or classes, they are failing. The hardcopy of the Recovery packets can be picked up between 8 am and 1 pm on April 22nd or April 24th this week at CHS.
The COI page on the CCPS website will be updated on April 22 as another way to access Phase III materials.
I hope you have a great day and do not hesitate to email me at jjust@ccps.us or give me a call at (804)633-9886 extension 5113.
Sincerely,
Mr. Joshua Just

Bird Watching with Ms. Borsari
"In this quarantine time, I wanted to share some tips for families to do something easily observable and biology related. I fell in love with birds and birdwatching in college and it is so easy to pick up and learn! Getting outside is great for your mood and this can be a good activity that is a little different from what most people do every day. *It also made me feel like I was teaching, which I miss a lot*. The video goes over how to identify common birds and the different ways you can identify them." - Ms. Borsari

Senior Student-Athletes
The athletic department is aware that some schools have been working on virtual senior nights or recognizing seniors through social media. We remain optimistic that there will be a live, in person recognition of senior athletes later in the spring or summer. However if that is not permitted we will use social media if needed. If a senior athlete has decided where they will continue their playing career next year, please email Mr. Heizer. pheizer@ccps.us
