Babushka's Doll

Narrative Paragraph
The author, Patricia Polacco was born in Lansing, Michigan on July 11, 1944. Babushka's Doll was first published in 1990. The culture of the book was Russian heritage considering Babushka means grandmother in Russian. Babushka's Doll was a unique book. She had only been played with once by Babushka when she was a young girl like her higher spirited granddaughter (Natasha). When Babushka left to take care of a few things at the store. Natasha being the curious girl she was decided she wanted to also play with Babushka's doll just once. As the doll comes to life and ends up being even more bad then Natasha was being to her grandma. The doll teaches Natasha a lesson on how it feels to be a bossy little girl and that she should be a patient, well mannered young girl.
Vocabulary
Kettle-a vessel, usually made of metal and with a handle, used for boiling liquids or cooking foods.
Sloshed-to splash liquid around wildly.
Chirped-to make an excited sound.
Procedures:
1. I wrote the word on the white board prior to the read aloud.
2. Once all the students were seated on the carpet I read the words and their definition to them.
3. As I was reading the words I asked the students to repeat them after me.
4. Lastly to see if they understood the words, I asked a few of the students to give me an example (use it in a sentence).
