Reading Workshop: Emergent Storybooks
Our unit of study surrounding emergent storybooks, is all about revisiting familiar texts time and time again. Emergent storybooks contain a strong characters, present the reader with a clear problem and solution, and have rich illustrations that closely mirror the text on each page. To further support children during their daily practice of independent reading, we have replaced the books in our table top book bins with copies of the storybooks we have read together as a class.
In small groups, we looked closely at how the illustrations found in our collection of emergent storybooks can reveal what is happening to each character. Additionally, we learned to use illustrations to tell a story across pages. Here are the Emergent Storybooks we focused on this week:
Drawing and Writing Books and Handwriting
We also started our handwriting program, Handwriting Without Tears. HWT is a wonderful, sensory-based curriculum. For more information, check out the HWT website: https://www.hwtears.com/hwt
