Most events for the school year 2018-2019 are posted on the Pine Street Calendar located on the Pine Street Web Page. You can find detailed information if you click on the dates on the calendar. there are a few events that will be posted as soon as we have the dates for them such as Spring field trips, M-Step testing dates for 5th grade will be in April and for the 6th grade in May as well as the Spring NWEA dates that will take place after the M-Step.

Pine Street will also send out instant alerts message through email and or text. These alerts may also include attachments. We may also use a voice message when needed.
FUTURE EVENTS
Tom Thelen to talk about ways to Prevent Bullying
Thursday, November 29th Pine Street Students will travel to the Wayland Union Fine Arts Center to hear Tom Thelen talk about how to confront and prevent bullying by not being a victim. Students will board buses for the 1:00 p.m. presentation. This will be followed with two more sessions that Pine Street provides by our school social worker and counselor, Mrs. Larsen. She will begin her programming with a session in December; What is Bullying and How to be a good bystander-Tools to utilize will be Stop, Walk, and Talk.
The second session to be held in late January will focus on Cyber-Bullying. The second session supports the OK to Say Assembly held in October as well as what the 5th grade students have been learning in their Media Class.
WIPTO Holiday Store - Students Can Shop For Presents November 28th and 29th
The Holiday Store provided by the Wayland Intermediate Parent Teacher Organization (WIPTO) will take place Wednesday, November 28th for students during the day. If your child is absent they can shop at lunch/recess on Thursday, November 29. If any students from other buildings or community would like to bring their children to shop you are welcome, Thursday, November 29th from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. The Holiday Store is located in the Pine Street Media Center. All items cost $2.00.
Book Fair will be held in the Pine Street Media Center December 3rd-7th
Library checkout will be canceled for the week as we turn the library into a bookstore. Teachers will sign up for times to visit for a preview and to purchase, but any day that students bring money they will be allowed to buy. Parents are welcome to attend during the day, OR the book fair will also be open on Thursday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. All of the money raised will go to the Pine Street Media Center and our students through purchasing new books or more copies of popular titles.
Next Fun Friday - December 14th
The next Fun Friday will be on December 14th.
Sign-ups Begin Thursday, December 6th. A permission slip and $5.00 will be due to the office on or before December 14th.
Reproductive Health will be taught in December
5th Grade students will be taught reproductive health on Monday, December 17th and Tuesday, December 18th.
6th Grade students will be taught beginning Thursday, December 13th through Wednesday, December 19th.
If you were not able to attend the informational meeting held on Thursday, November 15th the curriculum is available for you to view at school or to check out and take home. We will need these materials returned on or before Friday, December 7.
Talent Show Sign-Ups Have Been Extended, Try-Outs Have Been Pushed Back--Date Changes Below and on Website
The Pine Street Talent Show will be held on Thursday, February 14th at 12:55 PM in the Pine Street Gym.
Students are signing up by turning in their permission slips with the turn in date for these slips on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.
The week for try-outs has also been moved back. Ms. Boehm and other teachers will be holding try-outs for the talent show the week of December 10th. Your child will receive a date and time for their try-out. Practice times will take place in late January and February.
6th Grade Field Trip—Students will travel to St. Johns
6th Grade Students will travel to the IQ Hub in St. Johns Michigan.
Mrs. Bailey and Mr. Moelker will attend Friday, November 30.
Mrs. Howell and Mr. Raab will go on Tuesday, December 4.
Mrs. Burrows and Mr. Drew will travel on Wednesday, December 5th
Mrs. Mattis and Ms. Foster will attend on Thursday, December 6.
On their respective day, the students will leave at 7:35 a.m. and be back at 2:15 p.m.
The students will learn about the environment which will include looking at our earth’s water, soil, and more.

Spelling Bee Sign-Up in Pine Street Office: Students will sign their name and be given a list of words to study. The Qualifying Test will be given during recess on December 13th. The Pine Street Spelling Bee will take place on January 10th at 1:00 PM for those who qualified.
Intramurals Session 2 - Volleyball:
Sign up sheets are due on or before Tuesday, November 27th.
Intramural takes place in the Pine Street Gym from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Dates of the intramural: 11/27, 11/28, 11/29, 12/4, 12/6, 12/11, 12/13, 12/18, 12/19, and 12/20
K-Kids:
The next meeting is Thursday, December 6th from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Mrs. Bailey’s Room, Room 123. Next dates: 1/3, 1/17, 2/7
Game Club:
Permission Slips are available in the information rack outside of the Pine Street Office. Sign-up takes place all year long. Students play board games, checker, chess and others.

Art Club:

Students Honored our Community Members Recognizing Veterans Day
Hats for Veterans Continues Through November
Socktoberfest a Success
Students at Pine Street brought over 1100 pairs of socks that the K-Kids dropped off at the Mel Trotter Mission in Grand Rapids. The 12 representatives from K-Kids were given a tour of the mission as well taught about why socks are so important to those that are homeless at this time.
Thank you students, staff, and parents for supporting this fundraiser.
